"You're silly." Jay says, poking my forehead, and I stick my tongue out at him.
"Jay! Jordan!" We hear Kay say as she knocks on the door. "We're gonna have some meetings with some people who want to adopt someone!" Kay knocks more, then we hear her move away and down the stairs. Jay and I look at each other, "Do you think today will be the day one of us gets adopted?" I ask nervously, looking away from Jay and at the door. Jay gets up and grabs my hand and pulls me up, "Well, we'll see." Jay says, pulling me out of his room.
"I don't want to be separated from you!" I say, grabbing onto his arm with my other hand as he is still holding mine. "What if one of us gets adopted and then we have to leave? Like, leave the city?" I say, worrying. Jay smiles slightly, "I'm sure that won't happen!" He says, turning and smiling at me as we enter the main living room area. "So, does anyone know who they are?" Jay asks as we sit down on one of the single chairs together.
"It's two guys, they're looking to adopt together. I think I heard that they are engaged." Vi says from across the room, sitting on one of the side couches with Li. "First gay couple to come in here and openly say they are gay." Li says, yawning and stretching. Vi and Li are sitting close together, and they start whispering something to each other. As I look around, everyone seems to have gathered here, but there's one person missing.
"Have the interviews already started?" I ask, looking around. I see multiple people nod, and I nod back, looking down at my hand that Jay is still holding. "Too bad we can't say we're siblings, they have records here." I say, looking at Jay and he laughs quietly. "Jordan, if we are siblings we can't get married. Remember our promise?" Jay says, looking at me while smiling. I smile and nod back, blushing slightly. I look down again, still smiling.
We all look at the door when Kay returns, going over to Vi and Li and flopping down on the couch they are on. "Jay, You're up next." Mr. N says as He stands at the door. Jay gets up and pats my head as he does, and then goes with Mr. Norup. "How were they?" I ask Kay, and she smiles, "They were nice! Their names are Adam and Jason, and they are engaged. They're really nice, and they seem cool! After they get through everyone then they will pick who they want. It probably won't be one of us older kids though. Probably one of the younger ones." Kay says, looking over at the elementary schoolers playing with toy cars on the carpet.
"Yeah, they're excited though, you can tell." I say, looking at them also. The room is filled with sounds of kids saying 'vroom' and some squealing from the younger kids for a few minutes. I smile, "You know, they might pick one of us older kids too." I say, looking back at Kay. "You never know." Kay smiles at that, but I can tell she doesn't feel the same as me on that topic. "I hope whoever they choose will be in good hands." Kay says, yawning. "I hope so too." I reply as the door opens and Jay comes back in. "Vi and Li, come on." Mr. N says to them, and they get up and go with him.
"Hey Joji, how were they?" I ask as he sits back down next to me once I scoot over so there's room for him. "They were nice! I'm sure you already asked Ky about them though." Jay says, looking around. "Yeah, what did they ask you?" I question, poking his side. He jumps a bit, and tries to scoot a bit away because of that but there's no room on the chair for that. "How I was, what my name was, when my birthday was. We had a normal-ish conversation about things, you know, the usual." Jay says, eyeing me suspiciously like I'll poke him again.
"Darn, I thought they were gonna ask different questions. It's boring to answer the same ones over and over." I say, and Jay settles back down. "Yeah, well, everyone asks those questions. Even though they have the beginning information in file." Jay says. I move and sit diagonally on the chair, my legs over Jays legs. The room is quiet again except for the little kids making noises with the toys. Time passes quickly when Vi and Li come back, and when the two other kids before I get called. I get up and go follow Mr. N to where the two are waiting, and I sit down in a chair across from them.
