The soft grass tickled my bare feet. The breeze blew freely in my hair, it's hands cupping my warm cheeks. My long hair fell out of it's loose ponytail brushing against my back. The beautiful sky was almost clear, the odd cloud vanishing as quickly as they had appeared. The scenery around me wasn't much, but it was better than crowded halls or busy market places. Easier to work with than anywhere else. The lack of wildlife was concerning, although just the simple breeze and sound of grass shuffling was enough to ease me. Brushing off the dirt from my jeans, I adjusted the strap on my back. I sighed, letting out the tension in my chest, trying to enjoy the small moment I had while it lasted. The wind, the grass, the dirt, the sun, the sky... everything..
The world. The world as it was, the world how it should be, the world-THUD. THUD. THUD.
My eyes were now focused, my ears perked up, my senses all heightened. I took of my strap, allowing the gun to fall into my hand. He was coming. I quickly dived into the grass. It was no longer comfortable. The wind was gone leaving the humid air in it's place. The tall grass poked my eyes. Now that I was tucked under, exposed dead grass poked into my side. I grit my teeth as a stone lodged its way into my boots, digging into it. Footsteps. I heard footsteps. One person... male... possibly armed. I could take him.I rolled over to my side, clutching the gun close to me, I loaded the bullets, keeping my head low. The footsteps stopped. God why does this always happen I thought angrily. I held my breath. The man's breathing was slow and quiet. But not quiet enough...Jumping up from my position, I plunged the back of the gun into the man's back. He let out a grunt and fell to the ground. I quickly twisted my death machine around, shooting the man in the leg.
He let out a blood curdling cry and squirmed, trying to reach a knife that had fallen from his grasp. My eyes flashed as I put pressure on his now bleeding leg with my foot. He bit his lip, his eyes watering. This was always the hardest part. No matter how many times I'd had to do it... it was always the hardest. Seeing the light leave someones eyes, their last breaths gone so quickly. My hands shook. I put my finger on the trigger. The man let out a single word, his eyes watering. "Please."I shoot him in the head. There. He was gone. I walked a few paces away and slumped to the ground just as the screens faded away. I grabbed the visual chip from my neck and threw it on the ground. The scene before me slid away, the man too.
All that was left was a dummy with a hole in it's head."Congratulations Agent Ash. Your fastest time yet!" a voice said. I slipped the gun off and dropped it in front of me in disgust."You say that like it's a good thing." I smile mockingly at my mentor, and storm of to my room, banging the door behind me. I hated this... right from the start. I never wanted this. I just wanted a normal life, a normal family, a normal heart. But no... that was never going to be an option for the most famous assassin in Europe.I lay my head on my bed and let the sounds of guns firing in the training rooms fill my head.
