The sun shone bright, a cool breeze blowing through the grass and the trees, the plants rustling gently as a result. In a field not far from their family home, two best friends stood meters apart from each other, their stances wide as they glared at each other from across the clearing.

"ARE YOU READY, PAPYRUS!?" Undyne shouted, confident that she was going to win this sparring session. Across from her, the skeleton crouched slightly, orange magic swirling around his hands as magical bones appeared in them.

Undyne smirked, her sharp, yellow teeth shining menacingly in the sunlight. A bright blue spear that almost looked like it was made of glass appeared in her hand, and several, smaller spears appeared in the air behind her.

The skeleton's arms tensed for a moment. He sighed and let his arms become loose again, albeit keeping his grip on his attacks solid as gold. His right eye sparked with orange magic, cackling as a reflex.

Undyne took a deep breath before throwing her hand in the air. "BEGIN!" she shouted.

Papyrus charged for her, and Undyne threw her hand down, sending the spears in the air flying towards him. Papyrus ducked and weaved to one side, keeping his eye on Undyne. Although both of them could only see out of one eye each, they helped each other a lot with only needing to use one, even in battle.

Undyne smiled, impressed. "Looks like he's been practicing," she thought out loud in a mumble. She backed up slightly as Papyrus reached her, and the two clashed their handheld weapons together, creating magical sparks that burned Undyne's scaly skin.

The two stared at each other for five solid seconds, trying to gather data from each other. In battle, everything mattered. When you were given an opportunity to analyze the other's body language, it was crucial to look directly into their eyes. Even in Papyrus' hollow sockets, Undyne saw a spark of power, and she knew instantly that he was going to break away first.

And Papyrus did so, leaping into the air and summoning a bone behind him that he then stood on and launched himself at her. Now that was unexpected.

Undyne summoned two spears that shot up from the ground and into an X formation to shield her from the attack. She jumped back as Papyrus slashed the spears with his bones, the glass-like magic shattering before her eyes. God, how strong was he?!

"Dude, how much have you been training without me?!" Undyne exclaimed, shooting more spears up from the ground to try and catch him while he was falling.

"OH, NOT TOO MUCH," Papyrus responded, summoning a Blaster skull that shielded his feet from the spike floor below him.

Undyne smirked. "I can see that," she said, throwing her hand in the air. The spears that were below him grew longer, breaking right through the Blaster's bone and ripping the bottoms of Papyrus' jeans just as he realized and jumped away.

Since he jumped backward, he flipped himself around and landed on one of his knees with his hand on the ground. It hurt a little, but the grass provided a softer surface to land on. He groaned, pushing himself up and jumping to the left as Undyne shot even more spears at him from under his feet.

Undyne laughed maniacally as Papyrus summoned an intricate pattern of bones and sent it flying at her, purely to keep her distracted as he prepared a Blaster.

Luckily for Undyne, as she was halfway through the pattern, she heard the sound of the Blaster charging up. With a flick of her wrist, a fast-spinning spear appeared in front of her that was able to deflect the blast.

"WHAT?!" Papyrus exclaimed, sure that that would work. He watched the beam fire off into the distance and looked back just in time to see Undyne lunging at him.

Undyne tackled Papyrus, pinning him to the ground, a spear in her hand. She raised it above her head and brought it down on him, but Papyrus summoned a bone just in time to clash it with her weapon so he could escape.

Papyrus pushed her off of him with all he had and rolled out from underneath her. Once he was away, he sat up, an arm outstretched. A wall of bones appeared in front of him, shielding him so he could look at a sudden pain in his wrist.

"A small fracture... Probably from when Undyne tackled me. I can fix it later," he thought. He was broken out of his state by the sound of breaking bones and a spear heading right for him.

Everything went black, but he could hear the sound of a thin wall of bone shattering into a million pieces and Undyne screaming his name.

After hearing Undyne, he heard some mumbling, but everything was enveloped in a terrible ringing that was giving him a horrible headache. He brought his hand up to rub the back of his head where the pain was, only to feel a hole in his head.

Horror settled on him, and he tried to say Undyne's name, but all that came out was a pained groan as a cold feeling fell on his body.

"Pap, come on, stay with me...!" Undyne was heard crying, but he couldn't see her.

Papyrus tried to raise his head. "U-Un... Dy..."

He fell to the ground...
