'School's done? Grab your headset. Just because your life offline is trash, doesn't mean your world online has to be the same.'

Kenma Kozume throws his bag across the room and turns on his Xbox. He powers up one of his favorite games - Minecraft. Yes, it may be basic, but that doesn't mean it's not fun.

He logs onto discord and joins a call. A small smile comes to his face when he sees his friend waiting for him.

"Hi! How's your day epic gamer man?" says the voice over the call.

"Do you really have to call me that every time we talk?" asks the boy sitting on his bed.

"Yes, yes I do. Anyways what do you want to play?" he asks.

"Join my world, we're playing survival, hard mode." he replies.

"Ugh, does it have to be hard mode? I always die super early on hard mode!" asks the other boy.

"Shōyō, that's the whole point." he replies.

"Hey that's not fair! If we're playing hard, then my dog gets a blue collar!" exclaims the boy, Shōyō.

"Ugh fine let's just play already i'm getting bored." the dual haired boy says dryly.

They then went on to play for hours, forgetting about their homework, rotting in a corner of their already messy rooms.

---

"mr. kenma?"

"Mr. Kenma, please take me seriously. I need your homeowrk, can you get it out for me?" asks the teacher, who has just stopped by the boys desk.

Kenma sighs and reaches into his bag. He pulls out a crumpled piece of paper, the only things written on it are his name and the date. He hands it to the teacher and goes back to looking out the window.

"Mr.Kenma, i'll have you know this will not fly in highschool! You should be..."

It's only a few seconds before he manages to block out most of the world. Of course he can still hear his teacher scolding him, and the laughter of the other kids as he's told that he'll never get anywhere with his current mindset. He just chooses to ignore it.

'Should we play roblox or animal crossing after school today?'

---

A boy walks through the halls, a hood pulled over his head. He keeps his head up rather than down, even though he'd much rather not have to look at all these people. So why does he keep his head up? It's not for pride or anything. He draws more attention to himself if he looks at the floor. I mean he's already short enough as is, he might as well not make himself any shorter.

"Oh look it's the fun sized little kid!"

Of course that's the best they could come up with. It is October after all.

"You grow any taller yet freak!?"

"Haha look at him! He's like a mushroom, short and fat!"

The group of boys erupted into laughter. A single tear rolls down the boy's cheek. The insults aren't particularly mean or creative, but they hurt him none the less. He gets slammed into the locker, his papers spreading across the floor. More tears start flowing down his face as orange hair protrudes from his hoodie.

"Such a weak shrimp, I say we teach him a lesson, right guys?"

His breath hitches. He grabs his bag and runs as fast as he can to the library. Anything to avoid getting beat up again.

He sits in the corner and cries to himself. The librarian comes over and checks on him.

"No, i'm ok ma'am, really. Just going through something right now, y'know?"

She tries to comfort him every day. The excuses only get sadder as time goes on.

He always wishes that he could tell her, but it really wouldn't make a difference.

He sits looking out the window that overlooks the cafeteria. Everyone eating and talking happily with their friends.

He couldn't do either of those things.

At least, not alone.
