Chapter Seven ~Discoveries~
Lane~
Andrew knocked twice on Weston's bedroom door before he walked in to find a naked woman half sprawled across Weston's chest, asleep. Andrew looked at Weston and shook his head in disgust as he said, "Seriously, man. You better figure your shit out because," Andrew pointed at the woman on Weston's bed, "This isn't you."
Weston shoved the girl who was asleep on his chest further onto the bed, pulled the sheet up to cover her nakedness, and he rose from the bed naked. He walked to his dresser for a pair of pants. As he pulled them on, he looked at Andrew and asked, "What do you want this time?"
Andrew tossed two letters at Weston's naked chest and said, "Emma wrote you and some other woman, no doubt you screwed her too."
Weston glared at his brother as he picked up the envelope from Emma and asked, "What's your problem, man?" He cocked his eyebrow at Andrew and asked, "Jealous?"
Andrew shook his head in disbelief at Weston's questions, "No, Wes, I'm not jealous, and my problem is you. You asked Emma to marry you, and here you are whoring around, and you haven't made any attempt to bring her home," Andrew pointed at the letters and asked, "When was the last time you even wrote to her? Do you even still want to marry her?"
As Weston tore into Emma's letter, Andrew watched as the different emotions filtered across Weston's face from happy, sad, confused, and finally rage. Concerned, Andrew took the letter from Weston's frozen fingers and read his letter.
My Dearest Weston,
I have cherished every moment we have shared. There has never been anyone else for me since the moment we met. It's true, at first, you weren't so pleased to have some annoying little girl following your every movement.
Do you remember the time I followed you to your favorite fishing hole? I tried to sneak up on you, but you knew I was there all along. You took me by surprise when you picked me up and tossed me in the water; you laughed when I screamed from the cold water. It wasn't long before you got scared because I didn't come to the surface. You knew my dad would be pissed if anything happened to me. I saw the worried look on your face and couldn't help but to sneak up behind you and hook my leg through yours, sending us both tumbling into the cold water.
That last day even when you had your mom to worry about, you still found the time to make me fall in love with you. When you kissed me and asked me to marry you, God himself couldn't keep me from saying yes. For the last three and a half years, that night was the only thing keeping me glued together. My love, I'm tired. The glue that held me together has become cracked and fallen away.
I have been selfish all these years, for making you keep the promise you made me that night under the moon. It wouldn't be fair for you to be stuck with someone for the rest of your life just because you were emotional when you left. I'm no longer a child, Wes, neither one of us are.
It's time we faced the truth, and that truth is that neither one of us truly knew what that promise would mean later on in life.
We have both been through a lot of pain and suffering, and that changes a person. Wes, I killed your dad. Do you know what that did to me? Nobody does. Every time I close my eyes, I still see the life draining from his eyes. Weston, that day crippled me in so many ways, and I don't know how to come back from there.
