The day he met her, she introduced him to the side of life he had been blinded to up till now. That day his life was changed forever.
The morning sun was bright in the sky. Having a bag on his shoulder, a water bottle in his hand and with an emotionless face Harry George was walking towards his destination. He felt a drop of sweat flow down his cheek to his neck. The day was hot. He drank some water from his bottle.
As he reached his university, his first lesson was already started. He attended the remaining minutes of his lesson. He was a student of social work. After two consecutive classes, all his fellows were free, they went to the cafeteria. As he was about to leave the class, he saw Eltifat standing in front of the class. She was the most talented girl in the class. He was intrigued by her because she was different from all the girls of his circle and the only girl who wore niqaab and covered her hairs with scarf and arranged her scarf in such a way that only her eyes were visible. Her dark and obscure eyes had something unique. He stared at her from the past five minutes. She was hugging a heavy-looking book with a dark black cover to her chest. He thought that the book was either very important or was very expensive. Maybe it had an ancient secret.
“Excuse me! Can I ask something?” he tried to talk to her for the first time.
“Yeah, sure,” she looked up at him.
“What this book is about?” He tried to inquire directly.
She stared for a few seconds before she spoke, “It's my biography.”
“Oh...” He couldn’t help himself from saying, “I thought it is an ancient book.”
“It is ancient. It was written centuries ago,” she answered proudly.
“Where did you find it?” he asked.
“What is your field of interest in this book?” she questioned seriously,
looking at him straight in the eyes.
“I want to know more about it? May I read it?” he asked.
“You won’t understand it. It’s written in another language.” she refused.
“But what is it about?” he insisted.
“My past, my present, my future,” She answered.
His interest piqued, he eagerly lean towards her but before they could continue the conversation, she heard the honking of her car,” I have to go.” She said and without waiting for his reply she left. He watched her until she was out of sight.
He left and went straight to his home. He didn’t know why but his heart felt heavy. He forced himself to sleep. He dreamt a girl wearing a white dress, she was talking to him and there was dark all around. He tried to see her face, but before he could, he woke up suddenly. He sat up, and his mind immediately went to Eltifat and her mysterious book. He felt lost. The thunder roared in the sky. He laid back down and tried to sleep but he couldn’t sleep for the rest of the night.
