Chap Two:

I had my hands in my pockets, the cold air leaving a slight mist in the air. It was beginning to drizzle a bit so I started to run down the street, my hood up. That's when I heard two kids just a little older than me talking in an alley. I overheard them talking about some type of a party; "The best of the year," as one called it. I needed something to do so I shrugged and followed them at a distance where I entered the house unnoticeably. I don't know whose house or party it is but I'm here because there are free drinks. The lights are dim and the music is loud and pumping, the bass beating through the speakers. The music was unrecognizable but familiar, the lyrics about breaking up.

A few glasses of random drinks later:

Suddenly I am face to face with the floor, a little too tipsy, my mind swirling. Gathering myself I try standing when a hand goes around my upper arm pulling me up to meet his face. I know his face: Fox Everson- the music industries' leader. Who the hell invited him? Maybe this is his house.... great, breaking into a famous person's house. He doesn't look angry though, a little relieved actually.

I take my arm back and stand there with a bored face even though I'm standing in front of my hero. Fox's hand takes my arm again and leads me outside. Oh, no. As we're walking I notice the tattoo on his neck below his right ear; a snake.

"Why are you at my house?" he asks me leaning against the wall handing me a smoke and a lighter. Oh crap.

"Because I'm at a party, duh," I reply coolly not meeting his gaze. The moon was out and bright; full. It made it partially visible to see his face's outline in the dark.

"Listen, girl I want no trouble so I suggest you leave," he looked up studying my appearance. I rolled my eyes; no way was I leaving such an awesome party. I tried walking in but he pulled me back. "What's your name, kid," Fox asked like it was the winning lottery ticket numbers.

"My name is Aly, what does it matter to you? Because if you call the cops they won't take me in because I can say you gave a bunch of under aged kids-." I asserted very quickly and quietly before he rudely cut me off by waving his hands signaling 'no'.

He took a breath of smoke and looked at me as if studying my appearance. "I'm looking for someone just like you. Someone with this attitude that says 'Go to hell' written on their forehead. And you seem to be the girl." He puffed another smoke cloud. I am so confused right now I must look like a English speaking person in a Japanese speaking game show. "Now, I'm thinking about starting a band, a band no one has seen before, a band that will blow the socks off of every person in the world. A fresh new style that has everything that no one can't like. You know what I'm saying?"

I nod, who wouldn't want a band like that?  "So," he continues, "you seem pretty cool. You want to give it a try, just for music's sake?" His business card is in his hand pressing against my ribs.

The card was black with a white number in the middle that had a red barbed wire running along the rim. I meet his milky eyes when I looked up. Would I just throw it all away to start something so risky, with no idea if it would even work? "What's in it for me?" He just smirks and laughs to where his whole body is shaking.

He lifts his hands and motions towards everything, "The whole entire world will be at your feet, what else you could want?" I smile and reach out my hand accepting the deal. After his last puff he says, "Come to the address on the back tomorrow at noon and be prepared to learn a thing or two." After that he's back inside, leaving me alone to think.

I guess I might actually go through with this. I check the back for an address and find the actual Tuesday record company's address. The only thing left was people to be in the band. I knew Julian would be in before a heartbeat could go by, since he so eagerly wanted out of his home. The other players would probably be supplied by Fox, which doesn't surprise me. Other than that the only thing I needed was the music.

I finished the smoke on my walk home and crashed on my little mattress. Maybe tonight I won't run, but we'll see sooner or later.
