It was one of those days where in the early morning the air is crisp and the sun is shining brightly high above the fluffy clouds, but then by mid-morning, the storm clouds roll in and the sky becomes a sea of light and the streets become a lake of rushing rainwater, washing away all of the beautiful morning. By the late hours of the afternoon, the world gets swept away in the frenzies, and you stand there by yourself in the ruins of the disaster. Disaster is a daily occurrence for me, it seems to lurk behind me wherever I turn. Today's disaster had just occurred and unknown to me, at the time that is, it really wasn't my fault.
It had in fact been the fault of a little redheaded girl who had pranced around me at the water fountain hurtling awful insults at my annoyed figure. "Hey, Freak," she spat at me while doing a little spin letting her skirt fly out around her. "I just wanted to check and make sure you're still a freak," she continued. I hated that word, as the words left her mouth I felt my blood boiling, the temperature in the room began to climb, and then it stopped and all tension seemed to leave my body. Then it hit me, literally, droplets of water began to pelt me soaking my clothes and hair.
The girl screamed and ran toward the exit of the school building her goons following in her wake. I looked up the fire alarm was blaring and the water fountain was spitting water all over the hallway. "Great," I had thought while trying not to slip on any water that coated the hallway like a wet blanket. Unfortunately just as I was turning the corner I slipped and collided with the principle, Mr. Brown, who had come down the corridor to see what the commotion was. As we fell to the cold hard ground I vividly remember Mr. Brown letting out an extremely loud, and high pitched scream. After his third try of getting up of the wet tile floor without slipping, and falling back down he finally succeeded. He then turned his rat-like toward me. If looks could kill I would have been six feet under.
"Ms. Gilberts," he bellowed "My office NOW." I quickly got off the floor and followed Mr.Brown around the corner and down the hall to his office. Once inside he pointed at a chair in front of the large mahogany desk at which he conducted his work. I took his short stubby finger pointing at the uncomfortable looking chair as my cue to sit down. Once we were both settled he looked at me with a face full of pure and unmasked rage. He then looked down, pinched the bridge of his nose, and shook his head. "Ms. GIlberts," he sighed he kept his head not bearing to look up at my innocent figure "This is the third time this week." "But sir every single one of those times It hasn't it been my fault," I cut in pleading with him not to give me another detention.
He held his hand up telling me to silence my voice. I quickly complied closing my mouth and staring directly at his. "Ms. Gilberts," he said sadly "I really hate to do this, knowing that you've been expelled from many other schools for these exact reasons, but we simply can't keep letting you attend school here with all the trouble and damage you've caused. "But Mr. Brown," I pleaded sticking out my bottom lip and staring at him with imploring eyes "you can't expel me this is the last school in the state that would accept me." Mr. Brown looked at me with a strange glint in his eye. "The last regular school," he replied with a smile taking over his face. "I'm sorry sir, but I don't understand what you mean," I stuttered out very confused. "Of course you don't Lily," he told me looking considerably calmer than when we walked in here "your special." "You telling me," I breathed out. Mr.Brown chuckled "I mean you have a power unlike many." I still don't follow sir," I told him. He sighed "Have you ever wondered why these unexplainable accidents happen around you," Mr.brown asked.
"NO," I shook my head. "It's because of your powers," he told me as if it were obvious "Today when the water fountain burst what were you thinking about?" "Getting back at that annoying girl," you told him angrily. "And what happened," he looked at me and smirked? "The water fountain exploded and ruined her ghastly pink dress," I responded not seeing why he thought I had magical powers. Then it hit me like a freight train I made that water fountain burst. I knew it in my heart it wasn't a fortunate coincidence I had used my mind to blow up a water fountain. "I think you've figured it out Ms. Gilberts," Mr. Brown smiled knowingly at me. "Now go pack your mother will be here in an hour to bring you to Red Wood Academy," he commanded. I got up still slightly shocked about what had just happened when I got up this morning I had not expected to be told I had superpowers. Just as I was about to close the door to Mr.Browns office Mr.Brown piped up from inside "Oh and Mr. Gilberts," he paused then added "Good luck." I nodded my head then shut the door and walked up the stairs to my dorm. As I packed my bag I couldn't help but wonder what this new academy would be like.
About an hour later my mother arrived adorning his usual smile. As soon as she got out of the car she wrapped me in a hug. She then helped me load my bags in the car. As we drove away from the school I realized that I would finally be at a school where I wasn't a freak, and with that thought in mind, I smiled.
