A/N! I will be rushing through all of year one and part of year two for the main purpose of age. I find it a little bit weird to be writing such a thing in the perspective of an 11 year old girl (though I doubt there will be anything inappropriate unless I change my mind at a later date.
Another thing is that this is a side thing I do. Not my whole hobby. I have school and extracurricular activities - this means updates will be slow and some chapters may be rushed/short. However I will do my best and write to the best of my abilities. It is also good to note that I am yet to watch the last 3 films (they're arriving in the post in a few days)
Now that that's out of the way. Enjoy~

In a strange world of witchcraft and wizardry, hidden from plain, human beliefs, a school sat on a small hill, with a lake nearby and a forest beyond, it seemed utopian. However this school was unlike any other private school in England, as it taught said witchcraft and wizardry. All students that attended had special gifts. They could brew a potion to put someone to sleep, disarm a person with a simple wave of a hand, tame unexplainable creatures without even beginning to think it as odd or out of the ordinary.
One of these students was Y/N L/N.
This peculiar girl came from a Peculiar setting. Her mother married a wizard and a year later, she was born. Though after, her father ran off with another woman, forcing her mother to remarry to a wealthy man. They had children and that left Y/N with two younger siblings; Kate and Martha. They were both fully human, and Y/N's mother tried to force the witchcraft out of Y/N, starting from the moment her biological father left. It was too painful for her mother to watch her young girl grow up possessing the strange qualities she did - it all reminded her of the man who left her.

Though, it didn't work.

On Y/N's eleventh birthday, she was spoilt rotten with gifts of different perfumes, scarves and anything her heart desired. Though one letter stuck out. She always got letters from her mothers friends, and one every so often from her biological father, behind her mothers back. This was one of those years.
As soon as the clock beeped eight, she sprung up and ran downstairs before her mother could get to the letterbox, to see if she had received a letter from her father. She had. Y/N squealed with excitement and immediately went back upstairs to her room, opening the letter. Upon opening, she realised that there were intact two letters concealed within the envelope, one was more of a brownish colour and looked as though it had been stained by coffee - professional parchment, it also let off an elegant smell of melted wax and a faint scent of ink. Though she knew that wasn't for her father, so she read the normal white letter first. It was the same as every year; a simple happy birthday. Though, this year was slightly different; usually, she was gifted a generous £50 by her father, but in its place, this year, was a small key. A small, slightly disappointed frown played on Y/N's brow. Though, she wasn't upset, she was grateful she received anything at all from her father since she'd never met him, not that she could remember.
The second, more appealing letter was next. A large symbol of a shield, with a badger, a crow, a lion and a snake with the words "Draco Dormeins Nunquan Titilandus" engraved under it, stood proud above the letter itself, Y/N started to read:

Y/N noticed a small note fall out in which contained a list that (as stated), included books and objects.

This must be a prank Dad's pulling on me...
Y/N thought. Nonetheless she decided to reject the offer, despite how real it was. She heard her mom get up and walk down the corridor to her room. In a panic she hid the letters under her pillow and pretended to get up,
"Morning birthday girl!" Her mother exclaimed, walking over to sit on her bed and hug her; something was off. Something in the way Y/N's mother talked, something in the way she hugged. The way she walked, everything. Something was off. Did she know about the letter?
"Thanks Mom," Y/N said, exiting her mother's embrace, "Is dad up yet?" She asked with a bright smile, Y/N's stepdad always made the best pancakes on her birthday. It was the only day they were allowed pancakes for breakfast,
"Pancakes are on the table. Then we can open your presents," Y/N's mother said, maintaining her obviously fake smile. Without thinking, Y/N rushed to slip on her dressing gown and before she was about to leave the room, Y/N's mother spoke up, "Say, Y/N, you haven't gotten a.. um... strange letter per se, have you?" She asked. Y/N's heart stopped. She knew! How did she know?
"No, I haven't..." Y/N lied through her teeth
"You'd tell me if you had, right?" Her mother asked. With a nervous laugh, Y/N nodded,
"Of course mom," she said before leaving the room.
