“You will take the test.” Mom was infuriated. “Honey. Eleanor. You will do it. Everyone does it at age 18.It doesn’t hurt.”

“No. I make my own choices. It’s not fair that I can’t love. I love Finn.”

Mom looked at me straight in the eye. “ELEANOR. You’ll be in deep trouble!,” Mom whispered loudly.

“Fine! Bye FOREVER!” I yelled even though I wouldn’t leave. I stormed into my room and stuffed my face in my pillow. It just wasn’t fair at all. As I walked to my mom, I saw tears falling down her face. She was crying for the first time since my dad had died when I was five. I told her I was going to go get the groceries, when really I wouldn’t. She just said okay and continued to cook. I knew it was wrong to lie to my mom, but it was for the best. Or at least I thought.

I ran straight to Finn’s house. He lived on 34 N. Field Street. I ran for five minutes without stopping. It was urgent.
