“You will take the test.” Mom was infuriated. “Honey. Eleanor. You will do it. Everyone does it at age 18.It doesn’t hurt.”
“No. I make my own choices. It’s not fair that I can’t love. I love Finn.”
Mom looked at me straight in the eye. “ELEANOR. You’ll be in deep trouble!,” Mom whispered loudly.
“Fine! Bye FOREVER!” I yelled even though I wouldn’t leave. I stormed into my room and stuffed my face in my pillow. It just wasn’t fair at all. The test was harmless, yet not taking the test could leave you in jeopardy. I could die. But you couldn't make your own decisions in the world of Earth. Earth was a dangerous planet, yet a harmless planet. I stood up and walked down the stairs. I was still mad at mom, but I knew she was trying to protect me from the government. The government could put you in deep danger, but no one knows what they do if you don’t follow the laws. My friend, Amanda had loved someone, and escaped. But she was found and never seen again.
As I walked to my mom, I saw tears falling down her face. She was crying for the first time since my dad had died when I was five. I told her I was going to go get the groceries, when really I wouldn’t. She just said okay and continued to cook. I knew it was wrong to lie to my mom, but it was for the best. Or at least I thought.
I ran straight to Finn’s house. He lived on 34 N. Field Street. I ran for five minutes without stopping. It was urgent.
