You are an enigma.

Here I am, sitting alone at an old bar just a couple blocks away from the hospital.

I ordered another bottle of sake.

My mind wanders off as I cannot stop thinking about pulling the plug on her. Thinking that she is a mystery that I will never solve.

Although, the board's decision is completely justified.

We are the only hospital inside Utashinai, and we don't get too much funding. If we ran out of budget and get shut down, the locals would have to travel longer just to get medical care..

One life in exchange for hundreds.
Is this what morality is all about?

"What are you doing here?"

I turned around and saw Keiko standing behind me..

"Just, unwinding I guess"

I responded after taking another shot.

She grabbed the glass out of my hand and poured herself a drink.

"You've always been weird, but I never thought you'd be this weird"

Keiko said as she laughed a tid bit too hard after taking a shot.

"Hey! What do you mean?"

I asked her, as I try to take the glass from her but she wouldn't give it to me.

She poured herself another drink..

"You're inlove with a comatosed girl. Don't deny it. I see you everytime we have to update her chart."

Keiko said with tears running down her face as she tried to put up a smile.

"Keiko..."
"It's nothing like that. I just find Hanako a bit enigmatic, I'm curious that's all.. I'm sorry if you felt neglected as my friend"

I bowed down..

I can't explain it either.. Why do I spend so much time with Hanako..

"Eitherway, I will have to pull her plug tomorrow morning"

I said, still bowing down

**beep**

It's her pager beeping.

"I dont think so"

She said, while looking at her pager.
She grabbed my arms to pull me up. I took out some money to pay for my drink and we rushed towards her car.

"Wait! Where are we going?"

I asked Keiko.

"She woke up"

She said softly while driving.

"H..h..Hanako? Hanako woke up?"

I couldn't believe what I heard.
I was happy. Finally after 2 years.. I can talk to her.

I pulled out my phone and called Ayumi.

"Ayumi, what's the update on Hanako?"

"Well, she woked up alright, but your patient had a panic attack and is now dosed with haldol. She's awake but sedated, her stats are stable. She can breathe on her own and her pulse and bp is stable."- Ayumi

I was relieved.

We arrived at the hospital,

I grabbed my coat and went into her room instantly, and there she is. I checked if her pupils are responding, then I read her chart.

"Hi, I'm Dr.Hitori Watanabe, you're in the hospital. You had an accident. Do you remember why you're here?"

I asked her, she looked around and said

"Barely... I was walking out of the forest and into a main road when I saw a truck's headlight..."

She answered.
Her voice was very sweet, I can't help but notice.
Looks like there are no permanent brain damage

"Good, can you state your name and date of birth please?"

I asked, to test her memory.

"Izanami Sato. Born 1995, May 28"

She answered quickly.
So her name is Izanami.. like the Goddess?

"Do you have any idea where you are or what day is it?"

I asked her.
She shook her head.

"It's now October 31st of 2021.. it's been 2 years since you had your accident. You are now here at the Watanabe Teaching Hospital in Utashinai Shi "

I told her, while writing down her stats on her chart.

"Dr.Watanabe, your voice sounds familiar"

She said..
Maybe she did hear me, from all this time.

"I have been your attending doctor from the beginning. Together with Dr.Tsukushi you'll meet her later"

She looked around and then looked down to her legs.

"I can't feel my legs"-Izanami

"That's normal Ms.Sato. You were in a coma so you will have to undergo occupational therapy as part of your rehabilitation process. Do you feel pain though in any other areas of your body?" -Hitori

"I feel dizzy.." - Izanami

"That's from the haldol you were dosed with. I'm sorry, we were told you had a panic attack" -Hitori

"I also can't remember who I am..or where I'm from"

She looked at me with her teary eyes.
Looks like there has been some damage in her long term memory..

I ordered an MRI so we can test her brain function.
I also ordered a CT Scan to check for clots or any damage.
