To say you was nervous was an understatement. You were terrified. But excited of course for this amazing opportunity. You were being transferred from your unit in San Diego, California, which is a long ways away from where you currently were now, Quantico, Virginia. You had immediately jumped at the chance to transfer here because one of your best friends in the world, Ms. Penelope Garcia worked there as their technical analyst. You hadn't seen her in quite some time but you kept in touch and she had told you all about her bau family, you were so excited to meet them. As you put on your blazer you checked your watch 'crap I'm going to be late if I don't leave now' You then threw on your boots and with one last look in the mirror, you grabbed your keys and left.
You arrived just in time, pulling up to the intimidating building and parking right outside. You quickly checked your makeup in the mirror, and fixed your hair before walking up to the doors and scanning your key card. You walked into the elevator and pressed the up button, fiddling with the ring on your right finger. 'Ok, you've got this, just breathe, smile, and keep your head up. Ok? Ok' just then the elevator dinged and the door opened to reveal a very excited Penelope Garcia.
"Oh my god y/n it's been too long!!" She squealed as she pulled you in for a tight hug.
You chuckled "it really has been huh?!" She just nodded enthusiastically and linked her arm with yours.
"Ok you have GOT to meet my family they are truly the best in the biz!" She said as she walked you through the glass doors. The first one to approach us was who you could only assume was Derek. From the way Garcia had described him you thought she was being a little overdramatic, but seeing him here, in person, you had to admit, you stand corrected.
"Hey Babygir- woahhh who's your friend?" He asked with a cheeky grin, all the while looking you up and down. You blushed red at the attention and stuck your hand out and smiled.
"I'm Y/n y/l/n , it's so great to finally meet you I've heard so much about you."
"All good things I hope." He grabbed your hand and kissed it rather than shaking it. 'Oh my god this man is unreal, Garcia really wasn't kidding huh?!' You laughed lightly but before you could respond Garcia spun you around to another friendly face.
"Y/n this is the genius himself, Dr. Spencer Reid." He smiled sheepishly and waved. You smiled and waved back in return, remembering he wasn't too big on handshakes. Behind him approached a beautiful blonde, 'oh this has got to be JJ' she walked past Reid and walked right up to you shaking your hand immediately.
"Hi, I'm Jennifer Jareau but feel free to call me JJ." She smiled warmly.
"I'm y/n y/l/n it's nice to meet you." You smiled back. 'Wow these people are really nice, tell me why I didn't transfer sooner?' JJ started asking you about your trip and how you liked it so far in Virginia, however, as you all continued talking, you sensed someone watching. You turned and looked up to see two men leaning against the railing above the bullpen, quietly conversing and watching the scene before them unfold. 'Oh....shit. I was so distracted by everyone else that I forgot to introduce myself to my new unit chief dammit!' The two men began descending the stairs into the bullpen, everyone's chatter immediately died down and the older one of the two men approached you with a welcoming smile.
"The name's David Rossi, it's a pleasure." He said as he extended his hand for you to take. 'Oh my god I knew he looked familiar!' You quickly took his hand smiling brightly, eyes sparkling.
"Oh my god I am a huge fan of yours! I've read every single one of your books, it's an honor to meet you sir." He laughed as did everyone else 'well, except your stern faced unit chief'
"Please, call me Rossi." He replied.
"Well, Rossi, the names y/n y/l/n." You smiled. As starstruck as you were, It was hard to focus on conversing with Rossi when you could feel someone else's eyes boring into you. You looked behind Rossi and made direct eye contact with Aaron Hotchner, Garcia had told you about "Mr. grumpy face" on multiple occasions. 'Was it wrong to say that he was actually extremely attracti-.' Before you could finish your thought he approached , making his way through the rest of the team. He stopped just a mere foot away from you and stared you down, your heart stopped. You had to tilt your head to reach his eyes, 'why... is he...so..tall?!' Everyone was watching quietly as you held your hand out to him.
"Good Morning sir I could only assume you are my new unit chief, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." You tried to act confident but you were pretty sure everyone could see through you clearly. Come on it's a room full of profilers for gods sake. He took your hand and shook it firmly. 'Geez his hands are huge...'
"Good Morning Ms. y/l/n glad to have you here, my name's Aaron Hotchner."
You giggled softly "So I've heard." 'Oh.My.God. Why did I just say tha-'
"So you've heard?" He questioned back, his face remained stoic but you could see a tiny hint of mirth dancing in his eyes.
"Well- yes- I mean- You've got a look about you- that just- you know...." You explained a little too quickly. 'What is my problem why can't I function properly' His eyebrows rose and he chuckled. Your face grew bright red as everyone else watching began to laugh as well, so shocked that THE Aaron Hotchner was even laughing in the first place.
"Is that so?" He questioned, a smile still apparent on his lips.
"Well- yeah I-" He cut you off by squeezing your hand, which you noticed was still locked firmly with his, you finally met his eyes again, still blushing madly.
"It's alright." He replied. "I've been told I've got quite the serious smolder...a- what's the phrase...."resting bitch face." He smiled. Now it was your turn to laugh. 'Who is this guy? He's nothing like Garcia described, he was so....nice? Before you could embarrass myself anymore Garcia grabbed your shoulder and offered to show you to your desk, you looked up at Aaron and smiled before retracting your hand from his. You thanked everyone for the warm welcome and followed Garcia to your new desk. Everyone else dispersed to their designated spots and started on their work for the day. Once you set a few things up you dragged your hands over your face and looked at Garcia.
"What did I just do?! I just embarrassed myself in front of everyone including my new Unit Chief! Worst first impression ever right?! Maybe this was a bad idea-" Garcia stopped your sputtering by putting her hands on your shoulders.
"Honey, calm down please, it's ok, you're alright, ok? What just happened....was amazing! You know why I always called him "Mr. Grumpy face?" Because, 99.9% of the time he is! The fact that you made him laugh, not just smile, laugh on your first day is fricken awesome!" You simply looked at her,
dumbstruck as you fiddled with your ring once more."So......what does that even mean?" You asked, still a little flustered from earlier.
"It means.....that he likes you!" She said with a giddy smile on her face. Before you could even question what she had just said, Aaron walked up to your desk with your brand new name tag and said "Welcome to the team y/l/n."
