Helena, Alabama
After 4 P.M.
"Welcome to the humble abode," Owen acted as the pseudo-host, leading our guests through the living room. I crept my arm around Liv's waist, flawlessly carrying both bags in one hand.
"Wow," Zoey looked up and down the foyer, "I thought you Reeds shit diamonds."
Liv sighed at her sister's raunchy comment.
Owen laughed, "Diamonds, emeralds, sapphires. You name it, it yours, Zoe."
Zoe? Owen hardly ever used nicknames; he did with Rose, but that was different. She was his best friend, his keeper, his other half basically.
A blush spread rapidly across Zoey's cheeks as she tucked a strand of cocoa-colored hair behind her ear.
"Would you like a tour?" I heard Owen ask Zoey as Liv and I left for the kitchen.
"So... What now?" Liv plops down at the bar.
"Wait, and I'll make you some supper." I make my way towards the staircase.
"Where you goin'?"
"To put your bags in my room."
"Your room?"
"Yes. Our room." Liv smiles.
We both knew we wouldn't just be sleeping tonight.
I laid her grey and black duffels on the floor of my closet, telling myself to remind her of it later. I looked around my bedroom, seeing my unmade bed.
Aunt Liz usually made it, but when she didn't I typically just left it.
Not tonight, though.
I made the bed and took a step back to look at the still slightly skewed fabric.
I smiled.
By the end of the night, Liv Walker would have every part of me: my heart, my soul, my mind, and my virginity.
I headed back downstairs, finding Zoey rooting around in the pantry, and Liv nowhere in sight.
"Where's Liv?"
"Bathroom," Zoey answers nonchalantly.
"And Owen?"
"Lookin' for a car magazine he wanted to show me."
"And what 'bout you?"
Bringing her head out of the cabinet, Zoey glared at me.
"I'm hungry."
"Well, I was getting ready to fix supper for everyone."
She giggles, "So... You're gonna feed my sister before you screw her?"
I sigh, "Alright."
Liv told me once there was no use in arguing with Zoey; it was like talking to a brick wall.
Owen comes barreling down the stairs, "Zoe, I wanna show you this car I'm gonna rebuild."
Like the flip of a switch, Zoey's attitude dissipates; she smiles sweetly and follows Owen to where he sat on the couch.
Cars were Owen's calling; he liked buying scrap ones and rebuilding them.
Caregiving was Rose's; ever since she was a young teen, she dreamed of becoming a teacher.
Killing was mine; just came naturally.
"Okay," Liv announces happily, heading straight for the pantry, "Let's get some food, huh?"
