"Im so glad school is over" Giselle said as we walked along the concrete sidewalks to our job.
"So am I, and Im thinking about expanding my time at the hospital" I said as I walked along the side of her.
"You mean like extra work hours?"
"Yeah, I like working here and since were off school, I think I can use a little more money" I chuckled as we walked into the glass automatic sliding doors of the hospital, the cold air surrounds us and the smell of doctor instantly filled my nose.
"Yeah, but arent you going to do something with your acting career?" Giselle asked as she pressed the button to the silver elevator.
"Yeah but, I dont know. I like to be busy" I chuckled and shrugged my shoulders as we stepped into the elevator as it slightly bounced. I pressed the button with the big '10' on it and the two doors closed. The elevator smoothly went up to the tenth floor then the doors opened again to our floor. Since it was just us two tonight, like every other night, it was quiet since the employees before us left already. We walked to the huge desks as the noise of our shoes made a light tapping noise against the white clean hospital floors. I put my purse in one of the small cabinets behind the paper filled desk, then locked it.
"Im gonna go check all the kids" I told Giselle as she wrote something down and I walked away. I went into Michelle's room since it was closest to the desk. I slowly went inside and checked to see if anyone was here.
"Hi Sophie!" Her mom said sweetly as she hugged me. All of the patients familis knew me so well.
"Hello! How was she today?" I asked her mother as I softly stroked a sleeping Michelle's forehead.
"She was doing a bit better in the morning then got worse as the day went on" she informed me.
"Hm, well Ill see how she will do when she wakes up" I said. She nodded then I smiled at her and walked back out of the dim lighted room. I then went to Liam's room and slowly walked in. His parents werent here since they both worked at night, but Liam was wide awake, his little body sitting up in his huge hospital bed.
"Hi Liam!" I said softly as I walked in.
"Sophie!" He said excitedly. I went over and hugged him lightly.
"How are you feeling buddy?" I asked him as I stood next to him.
"A little bit better" He said and smiled proudly.
"Thats good! Ill come back in a couple minutes, call me if you need anything love!" I said then left his room. I was about to walk into Jordyn's room until my boss came out of the elevator, followed by nurses pushing a hospital bed. I walked over to them as they talking to Giselle.
"Hi Sophie, this is Gemma. She has been our patient for the last two months on another floor, but her floor is too full and she doesnt get the attention she needs, so we need to move her up here" My boss said as I smiled at the little pale girl with orange hair that spread across her pillow.
"Okay, room 6 is opened right there" I said as I pointed to the room and they took her to it.
"Did you right all of her information down?" I asked Giselle.
"Yeah, but we need to pay attention to her" she said as she copied a sheet of paper our boss gave her.
"What is wrong with her?" I asked as I walked around the counter desk and stood next to Giselle.
"Well, she has sleeping problems they cant figure out about and she wont talk. They think we will be able to get her to tell us whats happening" Giselle said as she read a paper then looked up at me.
"Strange, but okay" I shrugged. I went over to Gemma's room where the nurses were hooking up her machines as she laid there watching cartoons on the tv across from her bed in the wall.
"Hi Gemma, Im Sophie!" I said sweetly as I walked over to her and the nurses left. She gave me a simple wave with no expression on her face.
"I really like your hair, its very pretty" I smiled at her.
"Thank you" she said casually, again, with no emotion but a bit nervous.
"Do you need anything sweetie?" I asked her as I moved her table over a bit.
"Water" she asked.
"Of course, Ill be right back" I smiled as I walked out of her room. I went over to the kitchen room on our floor and poured her a cup of cold water in a plastic see through cup and Giselle came in.
"I checked the rest of the kids for you. Did you get Gemma to talk at all?" she asked.
"Mhmm, she said thanks, and water" I chuckled.
"Its a start." Giselle giggled as she got an apple out of the fridge. I walked back to Gemma's room with her water and sat it on the small table next to her.
"Anything else love?" I asked her as I closed the curtains to the window. She shook her head as she picked up he cup of water. I smiled at her then left her room. I went back to the desk and sat on the rolling chair next to Giselle as I got to work on some paper work as she did as well.
"Shes acually really adorable" I told Giselle.
"She really is, and can you check on Gabriel to see if he is ready to take his medicine?" Giselle told me. I nodded then walked down the large hallway to his room. I went inside and his little head was tilted over onto his shoulder as he slept and he table that swung out and in to him had his empty plate of food on it. I went back to Giselle.
"Uh, does he have to take the medicine tonight?" I asked her.
"No, he wanted it, why?" she asked.
"Because he fell asleep" I said.
"Oh then hes fine. Just pick up his trash" She said. I went back to Gabriel's room and cleaned up all of the trash and threw it away in the big trashcan in the outside hallway. I then went back inside and adjusted his body so he was comfortable and pulled a blanket over him. I put on his nightlight and turned off the big ceiling lights. I went over and shut his curtains and turned off his tv then left his room. I went to Gemma's room and checked on her, and she was asleep as well. I turned off her tv and threw away her empty cup that was filled with water. I adjusted her body as well, then left her room.
A couple hours later, I heard small whimpers come from Gemma's room. I quickly got up and went to her room. She was sitting up in bed, crying as she covered her face with her small delicate cold hands.
"Are you okay sweetie?" I asked her sweetly as I sat on the edge of her bed and rubbed her back. She didnt answer me and continued to cry.
"Can you tell me what happened?" I asked her. She looked like she was about to tell me as soon as she wiped her tears and pulled away from my hug.
