The next few days I completely avoided Wyatt, and consequently Blake and Cass too. They were all in the same circle and I didn't want any chance of running into him.
I thought long and hard about the events that took place at his house. Not so much the kiss, more about what happened after. There was so much to unpack and I really didn't even know where to start. I needed to clear my head and there was only one person who could help me do that.
I hear a car pull into the driveway and I rush downstairs to open the door for Lisa. She was carrying coffee and a bag from Rico's, which probably held our breakfast. I let her and we head to the kitchen. She takes out the food begins to stuff her face.
"So do you want the easy part, or the complicated part first?" I ask her.
She washes her food down with her coffee before she answered. "Lets go with easy first, it's not even 10 am yet and the coffee hasn't kicked in."
"Wyatt and I kissed."
She choked on her coffee and coughed dramatically. I just roll my eyes. "You're fucking lying to me right now, Riles."
I shake my head. "I'm not shitting you I'm being deadass for real. He kissed me first, to be specific, and I kissed him back."
She stares at me in disbelief and curiosity. "Was it hot?"
This time it was me who choked on my coffee. I coughed and wiped my mouth with one of the napkins. "Well, actually that's the complicated part. Or some of it."
"When we kissed...I had like, flashes of images in my head. It felt like a premonition, or like I was inside of someone's brain, watching their memories."
Lisa gave me a odd look. "What kind of images?"
"I saw someone burst into flames. He was completely covered in fire. I could feel his skin burning in my own body, the whole experience was fucking weird...but it gets weirder. I think I froze him."
" Froze...him?" She said very confused.
"Not like, ice frozen. It was like a picture. He was still, frozen in time or something like that. I'm not really sure."
"So you have the ability to freeze time now?"
I shrug my shoulders. "It's only happened once after that. Cass' parents said the closer you get to your Ascension, new powers start to develop. With my birthday being next week it would make sense."
I take a bite from my bagel and we sit in silence for a while. A lot of weird shit has been happening lately, and I have a bad feeling about everything. From the missing girls, to whatever that thing was in the woo-
"Wait." I say out loud, not totally on purpose.
"The spell we did to find Amanda Yern led us to the woods, and the map caught fire, which meant someone was cloaking her body."
"Yeah I thought we figured that out already." Lisa responded.
"Yeah, and Cassandra and I went to the woods and that beast was out there. I'm thinking, what if that thing was like, a guardian or watchdog. Protecting its owners territory."
"Well then who's the owner? Every guard dog has an owner commanding orders."
We both look at each other. The bad feeling I had intensified.

School was less stressful today. The worst thing that happened so far was a couple awkward glances from Wyatt across the halls, and me more awkwardly turning the opposite direction. I headed to my last class I had with Cassandra, who was suspicious that I was hiding something. The time we spent apart made me forget I couldn't keep a secret from her, even if she didn't know I was.
