As I watched the news of Mike Brown the other night , I didn't just see one African American boy. Or the face of just one family mourning the loss of their son.
I saw the faces of every African American boy and man. I saw the faces of all the parents who would now spend their lives wondering would their sons be next.
I saw the face of my mother the night she realized that my brother would be gone for some time. It was the same face I saw in the mirror the night I realized the closest
person to me wouldn't be able to be there anymore.
You know what the funny thing is? They tell us to get to know our history so that we can better understand the present. We learned about how the people fought for slavery to be abolished and how they finally got that in the year 1865. We were taught how no matter what our skin color were we would be equal, one in the same. They teach you about how the policemen are supposed to protect us from the danger in this world.Lately, that just hasn't been as true as we would like it to be.
