Chapter One

I woke up to my demise, at the girly squeal of my elder sister, Chelsea and grumpily trudged to the living room to find out what all the commotion was about. My eyebrows furrowed in annoyance as I looked from my excited and infuriating sister to the TV. ‘I should’ve known’, I angrily mumbled to myself as I glanced at the figure being shown on the TV. It was none other than the superstar teenage heartthrob and worldwide famous musician, Ash Parker. ‘Ah’, my sister let out a dreamy sigh as she watched the handsome boy receiving probably the billionth award for his debut album, ‘The Chase’. The album that sold millions in its first week , the album that captured the hearts of millions of girls around the world and blah blah blah. It really didn’t make any sense to me as to how people could be so obsessed with a person like that. A person whose life was nothing but an image. A very public image. I pitied those people and a very true example of one of those crazy fan girls was none other than my very own sister.

I picked up a heavy book lying on the coffee table, walked up to my sister who was still fantasizing about the famous rock star, and hit her on the head with the book, rather hard. She let out a painful groan and for a moment I regretted my actions on seeing her hurt face, but reverted to thinking that she deserved it after she slapped me on my arm harshly.

‘Why did you do that?’ she whined.

‘Huh, you so deserved it!’ I replied bitterly.

And she damn right did! NO ONE wakes me up from my peaceful slumber unless I do so myself voluntarily! Everybody I knew knew that! I turned my attention from a scowling Chelsea to the proudly grinning boy on TV as he expressed his excitement on getting nominated for a Grammy.

‘Thanks to all my fans for supporting me the whole time and never leaving my side up to this point. I could never have achieved any of this without you guys’ he said, smirking like he’d just taken over the world.

‘Oh puh-lease! That boy is so full of himself. I bet every single word he’s saying right now is I a complete and utter lie. He’s just saying all that stuff to get on the good side of his fans and the press!’ I ranted. However, my older sister obviously thought otherwise. Chelsea slowly turned her face to look at me with a death glare.

‘You did not just say that about him, you little brat!’ I bit my lip to squeeze in a laugh. She looked so funny when glaring! She thought she looked threatening and anyone in my place would’ve been laughing their heads off right now but I’m just smart enough to hold it in because I’ve already experienced what becomes of the person who makes fun of Chelsea. Yeah, I could laugh my butt off later. But, my tongue had other plans. My mouth moved of its own accord and I blurted out a sentence that I knew would surely tick her off. ‘You’re so obsessed with him, know everything about him, yet I bet he wouldn’t even give a dime about you even if you ever meet him. Huh, I can’t believe what a loser I’m related to’. I smirked at her scowling expression and mentally high-fived myself for my witty comment. But then my amazing of a sister (note the sarcasm) did the shocking and frightening. She called Mom. The one thing she knew all too well would shut me up for good, or for at least the next half hour. Yeah, I was done for.

I mentally slapped myself for ever starting the stupid argument with Chelsea. I should’ve known she’d pull the Mom trick instead of fighting the battle herself.

‘She’s such a coward’, I mumbled to myself as my Mom scolded me on about how it’s wrong to fight with your siblings.

‘Well why don’t you shout at her about how you shouldn’t wake Emily up so early in the morning?’ I mumbled to myself.

‘What was that young lady?’ my mother who was now almost red with anger, interrogated.

‘N-nothing’ I stuttered. No one had even the slightest chance of winning an argument against my mother. Not even me, the brave Emily.

‘Now go upstairs and pack your bags quickly. We’re leaving tomorrow right after school’ my mother ordered.

‘Yes Mom’ I obeyed like the oh so obedient child I am. ‘Oh and Mom? I love you!’ I said cheekily in my attempt to butter her up a bit. And oh how incredibly I failed.

‘Flattery will get you nowhere Emily Nichole Anderson! Now get packing!’ my mother shouted.
