The loud echo of the cement hallway leading towards the great hall engulfs me. Another year at Hogwarts had finally came to fruition and I couldn't be more excited. While summer was certainly an incredible time of the year I could never feel more at home than when surrounded by the incredible world of magic. Growing up a part of a muggle family was a part of myself that I loved, and don't get me wrong I absolutely adore my muggle family and my friends. However the feeling of magic coursing through my veins would always leave me feeling so powerful and excited, I don't know if there was another feeling in the world I craved more.
With a smile on my face I look towards Amber who is standing on my left. Her eyes were sparkling and closely resembled the sea when the sunlight hits it at dusk. She tucks her mousy hair behind her ear and looks down at me a smile on her lips. Having not seen each other all summer, finally being in each others company was a gift that I would hold dear forever. We didn't need to say words to understand the excitement we both held for another year at Hogwarts. I grabbed her hand excitedly.
"So tell me all about the summer," I exclaim excitedly "and I am being perfectly honest Amber, I want to know absolutely everything about everything."
"If you don't calm down they may have to resort you with the first years, you are sounding an awful lot like a Ravenclaw." Amber jests attempting to jab me with her elbow. I quickly take a step backwards to avoid the collision, but quickly take part in another one.
Slamming into a person behind me I hear someone let out a shocked grunt grabbing me around the lower back to hold me steady. After the person lets me go I spin around by the balls of my feet and come am immediately looking at someones chest. I look up and meet a pair of dark eyes. They were warm and comforting, the type of eyes that made you feel safe.
My cheeks heat up and I can tell I am burning red. I break away from the eyes and notice I am staring at George Weasley. The prankster of the school is smiling down at me. I certainly knew who he was, but with my quiet nature I wouldn't blame him for assuming I was a klutzy first year shocked by the beauty of the school.
"Oh my goodness I am so sorry," I rush out "I wasn't paying attention I am so sorry. I should've known-"
George raises a hand as if to calm my nerves, and it certainly worked. He just had an energy about him, one that was impossible to describe. An energy that made you made you feel warm and tingly. Being around him was intoxicating.
"No worries, you only broke a couple of my bones after all." He joked with a small smirk. I feel my shoulders drop and a smile becomes present on my face.
"Oh well in that case I would suggest you take a trip to Madame Pomfrey's." I joke back "I bet she's been missing you this summer."
"Well who wouldn't, look at this face." He says winking and flashing a picture perfect smile and to be honest, I definitely was looking at that face. At this point we had reached the dining hall and I was disappointed our conversation would be ending.
"See you around, Sage." George says with a small smile turning towards the Gryffindor table. I quickly turn to Amber notice her laughing slightly.
"Oh my goodness sage you are beet red, you look like a hooker in church." She snorts.
"Amber! He knows my name." I exclaim.
"Well I would hope so, we have been going to school with him for how long now?" She laughs gently hitting my arm.
With slight banter we continue making our way towards the Hufflepuff table, and began to greet all of the friends we had missed over the summer. Being with my Hogwarts family was rejuvenating it felt as though I had never left. We watched the first years get sorted, it was always exciting when we had new Hufflepuffs join our mighty group. We may not win as many house cups as Gryffindor, but I would fight any other house to prove our house has the most tight-knit bond.
Dumbledore walked towards the podium standing at the front of the great hall. As soon as he reached the podium the chatter amongst the students immediately came to a halt, it was as if a spell had been placed on the large group, but alas it was simply the respect we as students had for Dumbledore. He lists a couple of announcements that seem to be common knowledge to me, but I sit quietly nonetheless so the first years could hear. I remember my first year at Hogwarts, it was pure terror and I will always make sure the first years in my house feel safe and understand what is going on around them, just as many older Hufflepuffs had done for me.
"It is also my painful duty to inform you that the Quidditch Cup will not take place this year" Dumbledore states. I quickly turn my eyes towards the Gryffindor table, watching Fred and George slam their fists on their table and begin to rant to the other Gryffindors around them. Their Auburn hair moves back and forth as they ranted. My focus turns back towards Dumbledore as he begins to speak.
"this is due to another event that will be occurring at the school this year, that I am excited to announce. It is my promise to you all that you will still be able to enjoy some festivities this year." he states with a knowing twinkle in his eye
Before Dumbledore can state what these festivities will involve the door to the great hall swings open with a loud slam and a man who was covered in scars walked towards the front of the hall. He moved with authority as if he would not be stopped.
"May I introduce our new Defense against the Dark Arts Teacher, Professor Moody." Stated Dumbledore. "As I was saying this year we have the pleasure of hosting an event that has not been held in over a century. We will be hosting the Triwizard Tournament."
"you're joking" Yelled Fred Weasley calling my attention once again to George who sat looking astonished. His face broke out into a huge smile. Dumbledore began to speak but I didn't listen I was focused on George. Suddenly we made eye contact and he winked at me. I looked down in a hurry thoroughly embarrassed. How could I be so caught off guard by a boy I hardly knew?
Dumbledore went to explain the tournament and introduced the other schools involved. I was hardly paying attention, but when the Beauxbaton girls came through the door I instantly felt my stomach drop. They were the most beautiful group of girls I had ever seen. I tucked my long mahogany hair behind ear and looked down at my lap playing with my fingers. I could never compete with most of the girls at Hogwarts, let alone the Beauxbatons. I put on a fake smile and began to celebrate with my friends. On the outside I looked enthusiastic. Like I was on cloud 9, but in all actuality I felt like a such fool.
