The bright morning sun seemed to drip into Zak and Darryl's bedroom. Usually when the two woke up it was still fairly dark outside so why...

"Shit!" Zak tapped at his phone, the luminescent light hurt his eyes but looking at the time was more concerning.
He'd over slept, and he knew Darryl had class today.

"I'm such a terrible boyfriend", the boy muttered under his breath before flipping over to shake Darryl awake. Giving himself the title was still something he had to get used to, but right now there was more important things to perturbed about.

"Darryl! Wake up we're late it's like... 8:14!"

"Hm- what?"

"Don't you have class at like 8:20 or something!? I don't want you to be late because of me!"

Darryl sat up slightly, pushing Zak of him in the process and grabbed his glasses off their nightstand table. He glanced at the clock and rolled his eyes slightly.

"Zak I told you this already. Classes this semester don't start-" he took a second to yawn, "-until 8:40."

"Oh right. Yeah, I- I knew that I just..." to be honest Zak was a little embarrassed of the fuss he made to get Darryl awake. All that and he had the times mixed up. He flopped back down on their bed and gave out huff. "Hey, at least your not late", he said with a smile.

Darryl giggled a bit. "Yeah. It's gonna' be winter soon remember? That means the sun comes up earlier."

"Right."

"I swear you have the memory of a muffin." Both boys chuckled at Darryl's remark and Zak rolled over so his head was by Darryl's thigh.

"No time for cuddling Zak you should get ready for work."

"Not yettt." Zak complained dragging out the 'e'.

Darryl sighed and abruptly got out of bed, "You could've stayed with me but you just insisted on taking a gap year!" Darryl really tried not to be that kind of boyfriend, (The one who wants to know what their partner is doing at all time and where they are at all time), but knowing those things things gave him a sense of security. Not that he'd think Zak would ever cheat on him or anything, because he knew he wouldn't.

It's just, if he'd decided to go to college with him Darryl wouldn't ever have to worry about the younger boy. He'd be able to watch him almost all day everyday.
Of course he'd never actually tell Zak how much it bothered him, but he could definitely whine about it to himself.

"Come on get off your butt what time do you have to be at the shop?" Darryl asked.

Zak glanced at his phone again, "Ugh 8:30."

"Well then chop chop! I can drop you off in five minutes if you want."

"Alright, alright. I'm up." Zak got up and hastily made the bed. "Also, I don't mind work just so you know I'm pretty happy there."

Zak worked at a small coffee shop/bakery two blocks away from where Darryl was going to community college at. Mornings were pretty busy with students grabbing quick breakfast and getting hold of some form of caffeine, so getting there late made work difficult for the other employees. Plus Zak genuinely didn't mind his job. The pay was decent and he made pretty close friends with the other workers there.

"Yeah right." Darryl said with a laugh. "He'd be a lot happier if he could stay with me." He thought to himself. He just wouldn't except that Zak could be having a great time without him, he tried his hardest not to get angry at the thought.

Zak shrugged his boyfriend's comment off and continued picking out clothes for the day. With the cooler weather starting to take over he'd usually pick out a long sleeve and some black jeans, it wasn't long until both boys were ready to go.

They both packed their bags. Zak brought things like his phone, wallet, a charger. Darryl packed more or less the same items just with text books, a binder, some notebooks and a laptop, general school stuff.

"You ready Zak?"

"Yep!"

"Got your phone?"

"Check!"

Before grabbing the keys Darryl reached to mess with Zak's hair and the two smiled. He was so fond of the younger boy, everything about him was just so perfect. His eyes, his smile, his voice his-

"Darryl we kinda' need to get going here."

"Oh right." The older boy said, flustered he'd been caught gazing at Zak's features.

"You can stop right here", Zak said. Darryl had pulled up in front of the little shop and Zak was getting together his things and preparing to go in. "Are you sure you don't want to like, come in for some coffee or something. It's free." The boy said with the wink.

"No I'm fine Zak."

"There's muffins~"

"No really I'm fine, I might come visit you for lunch though. It's chilly today make sure you stay warm."

Zak sighed in defeat and simply nodded. "I will, mom." He barked back and situated the scarf around his neck. Zak got ready to step out into the bitter autumn air, before facing Darryl to give him a peck on the cheek. "Alright then see you later. Love you-" Before his lips could connect however, he soon got distracted and was much more interested in what was behind Darryl. "Oh my god is that Geo! (Spifey)"

Darryl turned to where Zak was looking and sure enough "Geo" was there. He seemed to be unlocking the doors to the cafe. "Oh... wasn't he sick or something?" Darryl questioned. He briefly remembered Zak telling him something about how he missed the fellow employee. It must have been ages ago though, because Darryl could barely recall the memory.

"Yeah.", Zak chirped.

Darryl took note of how Zak's eyes lit up at the sight of his tall friend. They almost looked like when you switch on Christmas lights in the dark.

They were something to enjoy...

...but he only wanted Zak's eyes to light up for him.

"I missed him so much, I'm so glad he's feeling better!" Zak squealed.

"Yeah? On second thought maybe I will pop in", Darryl said with a warm smile.
