I sighed as I finally parked my car in my designated parking spot. A little over 35 hours and I was finally at my destination.
Well, it would have been shorter but my 4 hour nap turned into 8 hours of sleep when I passed out in my car off the side of the highway somewhere in Kansas. Only to be awoken by a very angry local sheriff who thought I was a hippie.
I grabbed my 2 bags and walked up to my front door and walked inside. The apartment smelled like bleach and cleaning products but otherwise I could deal with it.
Whitefish, Montana. My new home. I ran away from my old hometown in Texas. A little over 6,400 people live in this tiny town in Montana. So to me it was the perfect spot to just run away to.
Beautiful landscapes with mountains in the distance. Tons of forests to hike and a huge amount of cattle and horses to always watch from a few beautiful vantage points not too far out from town.
A small bakery on the main street of Whitefish is where I'm working at. The owner is a friends aunt that I went to college with. It's the only reason I know of this tiny town. Other then a major railroad coming through town there isn't much here. Which is exactly what I wanted and needed.
I wish I could say I ran away from an ex-boyfriend. But no, I just ran away from family. My mother and father expected me to be someone I wasn't. I wanted to follow my own dreams and my parents were more then disappointed in their little girl.
I finished college about 3 years ago and received my business degree. My parents wanted me to take over their business and had been grooming me to do so since day one of junior high. I finally had enough after about 2 years and decided I couldn't take anymore.
My parents of course kicked me out when I didn't make the "right decision" and I ran off. Not looking back I needed a new start and needed to do this for myself.
My name is Annie Riley. I am 24 years old and I am a Gemini. No, I really don't care about that stuff I just don't know what else to say or how to introduce myself.
I throw my chestnut hair up into a messy bun and start unpacking the few boxes I brought with me. As I unpack my bags in the small dresser to the side I decided I needed to buy some furniture. I needed everything for the kitchen too. Please let something be open here. I grabbed my wallet and my keys, locked up the apartment and walked outside.
As soon as my feet hit the pavement of the sidewalk on the main street I smell pie. Which reminds me I haven't eaten since last night. Now my priority is food. Always food. I need something other then fast food. A small diner caught my eye as I ran across the street and entered the small diner.

I had finally caught the diner up with payroll, paid their bills, and signed off on some of the improvements. Being one of the only 2 restaurants in Whitefish we were fairly busy all the time. My family owned half the town because we had been here so long and because my Grandpa and Dad were pretty shrewd businessmen. My great great great grandparents were some of the first residents here.
I sighed as I ran my hands through my dark black hair. I needed a hair cut it was getting too long. I finally stood up as my back cracked. I'm 30 but I feel like I'm 50 sometimes.
I walked out to the front and it was busy for a Tuesday evening. Everyone was already seated but the single seat bar area was open. The bell rung at the front door as my eyes drifted to woman that just slid right in.
She was definitely a looker. Thick thighs and a nice waist made me smirk as I slowly eyed her entire body up to her eyes. She had long hair that stopped in the middle of her back.
Her skinny jeans and dark blue v-neck hugged her curves. Damn she looked good but I had never seen her before. I know everyone in this town and I had never seen her.
Then she smiled....oh damn. I shifted myself so I could see her as she sat down at the bar. She smiled at everyone as she passed and they greeted her. She sat down at one of the seats and I ran over to take care of her. I almost ran over Margie, my favorite waitress, to get to her.
"I got her Marg." I said quickly grabbing an order book.
"Sure Will." She laughed and winked at me knowing why I was "helping" her.
"Hey new girl. What can I get you?" I asked her turning on my charm.
Her dark green eyes looked me over and I froze. She was even more pretty up close.
Shit...
"Is it tattooed on my forehead?" She asked laughing.
Oh damn and she has a southern accent.....fuck me. She can't get any more gorgeous.
"No. I just happen to know everyone in this town...but you darlin'." I let the charm ooze out of me.
"Darlin'? Oookkk...I will have a sweet tea, a stack of pancakes with a side of hasbrown casserole, sausage links, scrambled eggs with cheese, and extra syrup......sweet cheeks." She winked and rambled off her order.
I saw her eyes flick to my chest...
"No name tag?" She asked.
"I'm Will." I offered my hand to shake.
"I like sweet cheeks better." She said.
I laughed and put up her order while I poured her a sweet tea.
"She's pretty. You gonna make a move or can I?" My best friend Charlie whispered low as he walked up the register that was next to the drink station.
"Hey sweet cheeks!" She yelled out to me and I barked out a laugh. Other customers laughing along with me.
I turned to Charles, "Already mine bro. Too slow."
He cursed lowly as he sat down at the bar to order his food.
"Yes darlin'?" I asked her and she raised an eyebrow at me.
"Sorry to interrupt. But do you know of a grocery store nearby? I need to get furniture and cleaning supplies tonight but need to go grocery shopping in the morning." She said softly.
"Well you are in luck. I'm off tomorrow and I can give you the grand tour here of Whitefish if that's ok." I answered her as I passed her food out to her.
She smiled widely, "Are you sure? I don't want to be intrude on you...or family...or a girlfriend..."
"I'm all yours tomorrow darlin'." I grabbed her phone and she eyed me curiously, "No phone lock. Damn girl you trust too easily. I saved my number. Text me when you wake up. You at Joan's apartments?" I asked as she nodded.
She grabbed her phone and sent me a text so I had her number.
"Tomorrow then sweet cheeks." She answered me and winked.
I watched her out of the corner of my eye for the next 30 minutes as I made my rounds around the restaurant. She ate every last piece of food off her plates.
She paid for her food as I was talking to my parents neighbors and I watched her walk out the front door.
Shit I didnt get her name....my phone buzzed again in my pocket. It was a text from Darlin'.
The name is Annie...
I like darlin' better 😉 I texted back.
Tomorrow is going to be fun.
