"Please give me one more day. I promise I'll give you the money soon" the old man was on his hands begging the other as his family stood behind, the little boy hiding away from the taller males. The woman hugged her son tight as she tried to not cry.
"We'll be back Mr. Park. Better get the money ready" the older male said, scoffing before turning back on his heels, gesturing the rest to follow him.
"C'mon boys our job is done," he said as they nodded, following him. As soon as they went away Mr. Park got on his feet walking towards his wife and son who seemed to be terrified after what had taken place.
"Minsuh" he started trying to hide his tears, "I failed you didn't I?"
Minsuh shook her head as a no, crying. The last thing she would want is to feel disappointed with her husband's actions. Mr. Park was all she wanted. She even left her house to live with him. There's no use in complaining.
"Jaejoon, I know we'll be able to get over this. This time will go away. Hardships will fade. You didn't fail me. You never will. Together we'll get through this. Even if we lose this house we can still manage to find another house. It ain't hard" lies. She knew it was. They weren't in a situation to spend their money on rent. The financial crisis was at its finest. Jaejoon's business partner cheated him and fled away with his money while Minsuh lost her job. As of now, the family was facing poverty, and their eight-year-old boy could do nothing but watch his parents cry as the day passed.
If they were on good terms with their respective families this wouldn't have happened. Minsuh, coming from a well off hadn't experienced poverty until she decided to run away with her lover Jaejoon. They were blinded by love and immaturity that they didn't even think about how they would spend their life together. The first few years were harsh for the couple who had their occasional fights here and there.
Until Jisung was born.
The couple now had someone to take care of and it added to their responsibility. Jaejoon decided to try his luck in the business industry while Minsuh looked for a job that matched her educational quantification. The two rented an apartment and they lived happily.
But like every other occasion, their happiness came to an end, and not soon after their landlord barged into their house wanting to drive the family away. Little jisung, although he was eight years old, understood what was happening. From the very age of three he had seen his parents struggle and many at times he had asked them only to hear them pursuing him to study more and not be bothered by it.
But he knew they were hiding it from him. He was mature for his age and that was both a boon and a curse. His only best friends were his father and his neighbor Na Jaemin. The older boy had taken to like him to the point that he started acting like his father.
Right now Jisung is sixteen. Like any other adolescent of his age, he's going to school. He knew how hard it was for his mom to get him enrolled in this very specific school after his father's death. He had a tough time adjusting to the reality but thankfully the two got over it. All she wanted was for her son to become successful.
"Jisung-ah remember what I said. Don't pick a fight with anyone. Your mom couldn't afford to lose you." She said kissing his cheek as the boy nodded. He knew how important he was to his mother.
Waving goodbye to her he started walking down the steps of their apartment waiting for his hyung Jaemin. The older was in his senior year.
The pink-haired male happily skipped towards Jisung who passed him a small smile. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Mr. and Mrs. Na waving their hands at their son. Just like Jisung, Jaemin was also an only child.
"Hey, Jisung. Are you coming with us?"
"To where?"
"To the movies of course." Jaemin passed him a wide smile as Jisung let out a sound of realization. It wasn't like he was interested in them. He wasn't particularly comfortable around Jaemin's friend's group either. The older was a social butterfly and despite being a part of their group he even had another group who were not really good guys. Apparently, Mark tried to let the younger male know that his friendship group was harmful but the male paid no heed.
"Sorry hyung my shift wouldn't be over by nine," he said apologetically as Jaemin pouted. He badly wanted to go on a movie date with the younger. But it seems like the younger male was busy. He didn't question him any further. He knew how Jisung was struggling to earn a living for his family despite his age and truth to be told that was something he admired about the younger.
"Well let's go sometime else," Jaemin said optimistically as Jisung hummed. The two kept walking too immersed in their conversations to even realize that they had reached the school gates. Jisung looked over to see Donghyuck waving at them, nagging them to get inside fast. Chuckling the two made their way towards the three. Mark was standing there with his hands around Donghyuck's waist as if a reminder to all those who kept looking at the younger male. Jeno was scrolling through his phone, not finding anything interesting apparently.
"Why are you both late?" He asked curiously as Jaemin sighed. Pointing towards the younger boy he said pouting.
"He woke up late."
"C'mon Jisung. We thought you were better than this"
"Yea yea whatever" the younger boy rolled his eyes getting a smack from Haechan.
"Where's the respect?"
"let's just get into class"
They nodded. After all, they were quite late and couldn't afford to spend one hour in detention.
"Hey Jaemin!" the pink-haired male looked back and waved at his friends who were passing him a toothy grin. The male happily skipped towards them as mark wrapped his arms around Jisung as a reminder that he was there for him. Even though he didn't know why Jisung was afraid of them he always got some bad vibes from them and sure enough the stares they were giving Jisung wasn't helping it any either.
"Hey!" He said as one of them engulfed him into a hug.
"You're up for the movie right?" Hyunjin asked as Jaemin nodded his head enthusiastically.
"What about Jisung?" he further asked as Haechan scowled.
"Don't look at my baby like that Hyunjin. He won't be coming with you all." Irritation was visible in his voice as he turned to Jaemin. "We'll get going, Jae. See you in class." he said before glaring at Hyunjin and his gang, joining Mark and Jeno who started walking to their respective classes with Jisung.
Jaemin sighed. Sure enough, he knew his friends weren't really fond of Hyunjin and it wasn't a secret anymore. But the fact that they refused to give him proper reasoning ticks him off. All they could come up with were bad vibes and nothing else.
"C'mon Na. Let's get to class" Hyunjin said throwing his arm around Jaemin making the other nod. Jisung looked hella uncomfortable, he thought. He would talk with the younger once they're done with classes.
