"Mione, hey," YN had a free period first,
"Hey, come on in," Hermione said. The pair sat down at the kitchen table. A lengthy potions essay was due in a few days and YN had yet to start it, Hermione had promised to help her,
"I - I was thinking, you know how we haven't exactly got professors-,"
"What do you mean?"
"McGonagall is Head and Transfiguration teacher and then - for defence against the dark arts - we have a different teacher every week,"
"The ministry can only offer us a few Aurors as guest professors, there's no-one able to take the position," Hermione said,
"But for first and second years, and every one up to 5th year, can't be taught properly by guest lectures, they need a professor, they need consistency,"
"I don't like where this is headed," Hermione said, YN laughed,
"You know I'm right,"
"And that is what makes it so annoying,"
"I've got to see McGonagall later anyway about - some work," YN sighed, "I might as well offer?"
"You'll be swamped with work!" Hermione said,
"I can manage, you know I can," YN said, Hermione shook her head then sighed,
"Fine, just shush and finish your essay," she said.
5 pm came and Draco and YN waited for McGonagall. She arrived,
"This lesson, I have an idea of what you two are like with babies, you are very good. I don't feel like you need another practical appointment for a few weeks, in the library, I recommend reading any parenting books that they have. There will be an exam on it for extra credit," she said,
"For what subject?" YN asked,
"Any subject you need it for, get full marks in the exam, extra credit in your worst subject,"
"That's - that's amazing, yeah," YN smiled, "So what are we doing today?"
"Today we will be discussing future careers, it is essential to being a parent that you know how to manage your time,"
"Professor - I need to tell you something," YN said,
"Yes, Potter?"
"If I have a godson, do I have to raise him?"
"Well, if the parents are deceased, then yes," McGonagall said,
"But what about another family member? Can they raise him?" YN asked,
"It would have to go through the Ministry and also Muggle legalities," McGonagall said,
"Oh, god why didn't I think of this before," she sighed and flopped on the sofa, head in her hands,
"YN?" Draco sat next to her and put his hand on her knee,
"I think, I think I have a kid," she looked up
"Excuse me?" Draco said,
"Not a real kid, well, he's real, but he's not really mine? He's Remus' kid, Teddy, he's my godson, "He's only 5 months old,"
"We were told that he was left to the Black family?" McGonagall said,
"Technically, there is no Black family left. Bellatrix Lestrange, Regulus, Sirius, Lucius Malfoy, Andromeda, Walburga, Nymphadora Tonks, they're all dead. It's just Draco and Narcissa left, and Draco isn't looking after him right now,"
"And who is?" McGonagall asked,
"Bill and Fleur, Molly couldn't bare looking after Teddy, he would turn his hair red to match hers and it reminded her of Fred," YN sighed, "But they're planning on having their own baby in the next year,"
"Are you planning on looking after this baby?" McGonagall asked,
"I have to, Professor, and I want to, I promised Tonks and Remus,"
"My mother- she could look after him," Draco said,
"No- no that's very kind, but, I couldn't do that to your mother,"
"Well, Potter, this is very contradictory to the whole Parenthood Class and what it was founded on," McGonagall sighed, "But- you only have 9 months left here, at Hogwarts,"
"Professor, I just - can you just listen for a minute?" McGonagall nodded, "I am going to raise Teddy, I have to, he's my godson and I will raise him. It's just, he won't know me in 9 months, he won't remember me. And I will have to look him in the eyes, tell him about his parents- and I think it's going to kill me," YN said, "I won't be able to work- or get have any other kids and all because of this stupid stupid war,"
"Potter-," McGonagall said, she was interrupted by Draco,
"Says who? You can work with a child, loads of people have and do. You told me yourself, you have an interview with the Minister next week?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't you see?! You're getting a job,"
"When do I get to be me? When do I get to leave and see the world, find myself? I don't want to be my parents!" she stood up, angry, "They settled far too quickly, I don't want that! I don't want to marry right out of school, have a kid, be tied down! But this war- it doesn't give you a choice. It was never my choice! I -,"
"This is parenting," McGonagall said,
"What?"
"These choices, feelings, conflicts, that is parenting," she said, "Teddy Lupin deserves a parent, and you are acting like that parents. You are a very bright witch, Miss Potter, good night."
YN was left confused and McGonagall left,
"YN for someone so smart you can be really dumb sometimes," Draco laughed, YN glared at him,
"Excuse you?"
"You could travel around the whole world and be back in time for dinner, you can do that! You can work 3 days a week, you can even not work at all, little miss Merlins Order," YN gasped with joy,
"Draco you're a genius!" she pulled him into a hug, spinning. He laughed,
"So, what's your plan?"
"I know exactly what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go for that job interview, I'm gonna get the job then the second I'm out of Hogwarts, Teddy and I are gonna move in together and for the cherry on top, next summer, I will be travelling and not working, Teddy can come too, sometimes. I will start work when I want to,"
"Now who is the genius?" Draco laughed,
"Kiss me," YN joked, then she paused, "Actually, yeah, kiss me," she pulled Draco by the tie into a kiss. She pulled back,
"You are getting far too confident,"
"Well, in case you hadn't realised, I've got the next year of my life planned out perfectly,"
