Passion's POV
"Okay ladies, this is the day we have all been waiting for. We have worked for years and years to get this hair boutique open and today is that day. I am proud of each and every last one of us, and I can't wait to see where this goes. Welcome to Passion for Hair"! I said while cutting the ribbon.Woman after woman rushed in to get a seat at my new salon and I couldn't be happier. I stood in the Atlanta heat and let the sun sit on my face before following the hoards of women before me. I was unbelievably happy at the amount of women we had show up today.
Yes, my name is Passion. My mother gave me that name because she knew I was going to be a fighter. Everything I've done in life was to make my mother proud. I'm sure you're wondering why I'm referring to her in the past tense, my mom passed away from breast cancer when I was 10 years old. My mother, my father, and my siblings were my life and I wouldn't ask for anyone else.
My father always spoke on how I was strong headed, even at a young age. I still have my pops and I thank God everyday for allowing him to stay in my life. My father made sure I had the best childhood. My father owned an extremely successful law firm, "The Right Way". My father raised me to be independent and strong, but also to be gentle and kind.
I got a job when I was 14, which of course was doing hair. The passion grew from watching my mom do my hair from home videos. In the videos I would stare at her in awe and she would continuously turn my head to finish my hair. I put myself through cosmetology school, while in college. I didn't want to use my Dads money because he did enough for me growing up.
Now here I am today, 24 years old with my own hair salon and my best friends right besides me. Of course we all grew up together and those have been my sisters since. They have other talents that they do at the shop. Honesty is our make up guru. I mean my sis can fucking slay when it comes to beating that face honey. No skin is too bright and no shade is too dark, as she like to put it. Honest, her twin sister, is an absolute fashionista when it comes to her clothing designs.
We took over everything in Atlanta and have our grand opening today. In my shop we bring in all shades, all sizes, and all genders. I was raised to love and respect everyone unless I had a reason not to. I even added some barbers, both men and women of course and my favorite tattoo artist. Why not have it all, when you provide it all?
As I turned around and walked in I was welcomed with applause from all the beautiful women before me. The beauty and happiness that swelled in my heart was more than I can take. I looked over at my two best friends and saw how proud they were of me. I returned the look and we knew where to go from here.
"All you beautiful and incredible women, thank you for coming today. As you know we do it all here. To my right we have our hair stylist. To my left we have our makeup artists. To the back we our fashion dominators. As you can see we serve all baby, as my sis likes to say, and if you could all say it with me". I said said looking at the women before me.
"No skin is too bright, and no shade is too dark"! We stated in unison.
"LET'S GET STARTED LADIES"! I yelled in excitement.
A few hours later, business was bouncing. We had the radio on throughout the salon and everyone was in high spirits. I looked up and thanked my mom for everything. Honesty walked up to me and hugged me, letting me know what I was thinking about. With them, that's all I ever needed.
I looked around and was utterly shocked out what I saw. Every hair stylist chair filled, with people waiting. Our make up station packed with eager clients. The clothing area packed with people ready to finalize a purchase. I was always told by haters, that I would grow up to be a good for nothing black girl with nappy hair and horrid roots. I've never been more proud to be a Melanin Queen and my rein has only begun.
