Three girls stared at the gates looming over them- spikes stabbing the sky, vines covering the iron framework. Beyond the gates stood a solid stone building, grey and dingy against the bright blue sky.
"It's creepy looking. I feel like we are in a horror movie. Someone
should be yelling, ' don't go up the stairs!'"
A brunette rolled her eyes, "Well duh. It's an old building that probably has more history than any other building we have been near. So yeah, it's creepy."
A young woman with black hair chuckled, "It probably doesn't help that the reason we are here is because we are freaks."
"Cat, do they really think that we are freaks? That we should be locked away and forgotten?"
Cat put her arms around her little sister and pulled her close, "You know, Kara that is exactly what they think of us. Only some think we can be deprogrammed and our powers can be turned off.'
The black haired girl laughed, "And others think we are the spawn of Satan."
"Here goes nothing." Cat sighed and pushed open the gates. Walking onto the premises the air became thick and almost suffocating.
The three girls came to a standstill in front of the entrance.
"This place doesn't sit right with me," the girl with black hair stated in a near whisper.
"I know what you mean Steph, there's a lot of pain and resentment. So much pain," Kara's eyes glazed over, "I can hear people screaming in my head. This is a bad place. We shouldn't be here.
Steph shuddered slightly, "I can't tell who, but a man in there is evil. Kara's right, we shouldn't be here. We need to leave..."
"Leave? Why would you leave this wonderful institution?"
Steph started, and then whirled around to face the source of the voice. The source turned out to be a well-dressed man. "Allow me to introduce myself: I am Darius Carver, creator of this institution. And you are?"
"We're patients of yours." Steph always used sarcasm when rattled. Kara tensed slightly at the smirk Darius Carver gave.
"Of course, but what are your names?"
"Does it matter? I'm sure you knew we were coming and you already know our names." Steph snapped. "So, Mr. Carver, what is the point?"
"The point?" Carver looked confused.
"Yeah, with this place."
"Ah well, the purpose of this institution is to help you become normal. You see within you is a devil so to speak. An unfortunate monster that has mutated your very genetic structure. This monster is what has given you these horrific abilities. We need to rid you of this monster, so you can have a normal life. If you will follow me I will show you to the residential wing where you will be staying."
The girls followed him into the institute and through a few winding hallways. Just when they thought they would be walking forever, Carver stopped in front of a locked door. As he swiped a card over a small grey square he said to the girls, "Here we are, once you enter the residential wing you will fill some paperwork out and then everything will be explained to you."
He opened the door and ushered the girls inside. Before leaving he smiled at the girls, "We will help you become normal." The door shut behind him and the girls heard the SNIKT of the lock.
