~Epilogue~

Before Sans, the Original, was a skeleton, he was a human. He lived on the Surface, happily with his family. He was 8 at the time. He had a mother, father, and baby sister, who was 4 years younger than him. They lived in a two-story house, and Sans was extremely intelligent for his age. His parents were always proud of him, and they were very close. Then one day, it all changed.

His mother took his baby sister with her to swimming lessons. Sans was with his father in the living room, reading, when he heard the phone ring. He heard his father pick up the phone as he looked up from his book to try and listen. "Hello?" His dad said as he held the phone to his ear. "Yes, this is ______," his father said into it. Try as he might, Sans could not listen. His father's eyes widened as the person on the phone kept talking to him.

They had died in a car crash. A drunk driver had hit them, sending them into a nearby pole. The driver had hit the back of the car, while the pole had hit the driver's door. The seatbelt had loosened and detached itself, causing his mother to crash through the glass window, and smashing her head into the cement wall, killing her instantly. His baby sister had been in the back, and died as the engine exploded soon after the mother had died.

Soon, his father was crying. "Are you okay, Papa?" Sans said, hugging his father. He didn't quite know what was wrong, or why his father was crying, but he just wanted to comfort his father. After a bit, his father finally could speak. "S-Sans... your mother and sister... are no longer with us..." his father said as he continued to cry heavily. "What do you mean, papa? Aren't they just at the sissy's swimming class?" Sans did understand what his father had told him. His father hugged him tighter and he continued to weep.

"They're... they're dead," his father said. "D-Dead...? Mommy and sissy are in Heaven?" Sans started to tear up. "B-But, I don't want them to leave yet! Mommy still has to help me with piano! A-And I still have to play with sissy!" He hugged his father and wept with him. "I-I don't want them to go, Papa... why'd they leave...?" His father hugged him as he spoke. "Mommy and sissy are angels now, okay? They'll always be watching over you... they won't ever leave you, okay?" His father hugged his a bit tighter, but not too tight so as to suffocate Sans. "Okay... I love you, Mommy. I love you, Sissy."

As the years went by, his father constantly drank. He physically abused Sans and called him names, telling him he was useless. After a year or two of this, he came home with a woman. She was as brutal as he was to Sans, constantly beating him up in a drunken state. He was ordered to do all the chores, and was basically a slave for his whole life. By the time he was 16, he was done with this. He wanted to tell the police about all the abuse he had suffered from, but he was too afraid. His father had told him that he would kill Sans if he told anyone what had happened.

So Sans finally snapped. He had heard of the legend of Mt. Ebbot, and how you went missing if you ever went inside of it. One night, after his father and his father's (now engaged) girlfriend were passed out, he packed his bag with what little belongs he still had, and left. These possessions included a necklace his mother had given him when he was younger. He remembered her words as he looked at the crescent-shaped sapphire hanging from the soft white band of rope holding it up. It was encased in a golden sphere, which had bright yellow glass wings from either side of it.

"This, Sans, is something our family has always had. It stands for Justice and Patience. This necklace will protect you like it protected me. Whenever you wear it, remember of all the good memories you have had with me, your father, and your sister. It will keep you from any harm, and no danger will be able to kill you. You may get a bit beat up on the way, but it will keep you from getting seriously injured or dying. It will help you to have Patience with life and its wicked and cruel ways, and tell you when Justice is needed."
