(3rd P.O.V)
The sun shines into your room, reflecting off the icicles from last night's snowstorm. You hear a car rev its engine at the stoplight, waking up from your warm and comfortable slumber. You groggily turn over to check the time on your phone, it reads 11:43. You pull your covers back up and close your eyes for a few minutes. You finally get the motivation to grab your phone again to scroll through social media. A notification from your coworker, Matt, appears seconds later asking if you would come into the video store and cover for him (you work at the video store). Annoyed, you say sure and regret pressing send. I do NOT feel like this today. At least you'll be getting paid for it. You go to get dressed, choosing a pair of ripped skinny jeans, a laced black crop top, a pair of Vans, and your favorite choker. You put a scrunchie on your wrist in case you decide to pull your hair back. After brushing your teeth and hair you grab a water bottle and put it in your bag along with your phone, camera, sketchbook, and other art supplies. It gets slow sometimes and you didn't want to get too bored. You grab a granola bar to eat for breakfast-well, lunch because it's about 12 now. You can finally start your walk to work. It's not too far, it would only take half an hour to get there. You decide to call Matt to tell him you are on your way and should be there soon. He isn't the nicest person, and you hated working with him because he never did anything useful. After you end the call, you reach the woods. You shift your backpack on your shoulders, starting to get an eerie feeling in your stomach. The thick trees looked darker than they normally do today. You walk faster, trying to shake the feeling. The sidewalk fades and you have to go into the woods for about 5 minutes, until you walk out the other side. The feeling doesn't change, and if anything it's getting worse. You keep hearing...whispering? You brush it off, thinking its the wind and snow falling through the trees. You can almost hear tell voices apart from each other within the whispering. You try to ignore it but it keeps getting louder and louder until the sound is all around you, in your head. Your vision starts to get blurry, and your heart is racing while your stomach grows nauseous. You scream, and suddenly everything goes black.
You begin to gain consciousness, feeling like you've been out for hours. Your entire body aches, making you want to keep your eyes closed. You can hear a campfire and...voices? Curiosity makes you open your eyes, only for your vision to be blurry. As it goes back to normal, you see the face of a girl with blonde hair over top of you. Maybe she found you and decided to help? The look on her face was worried, but comforting. There were other people around you too, but you cared about the person helping you because, well, they were the only one who seemed to care about what happened to you. "What happened" you barely mutter out. The girl smiles sadly " You're here to be a part of these trails, set up by the Entity. I'll explain on the way to your cabin". My cabin? They have a cabin for me? How did they know I was going to be here? You just have to ask more questions. "Where are we?" You say as you slowly stand up, the pain overbearing you. The girls helps you up. " Well, I don't exactly know. All I know is that we're stuck here, all of us" she motions towards the other people around the fire, there's quite a few. "and we have to survive trials against...killers?". " Killers?" You whisper. " Yeah. I know it sounds crazy, but you have to believe me. When you go into a trial, we all have to fix 5 generators to power 2 gates that allow us to go back to where we are now." she looks back at the campfire. She motions you to sit down on a bench beside her. " In a trial, there will be four of us and one killer. There are multiple killers, each with their own special abilities. If you get knocked down or grabbed by them, they will take you to a hook. Get hooked 3 times and you die". You're slightly confused. " So that means you've never died in a trial before?" She taps herself on the head as if to say she is stupid. " I forgot the good part of all this. If you die in a trial, you don't die in real life. If you die in a trial you still return to the campfire." You sigh in relief "Thank God". She smiles and giggles a bit. "You'll get used to it and learn the ways. Now let's get you to your cabin so you can settle in. My name is Kate by the way." "I'm y/n".
