C H A P T E R 2

TRIGGER WARNING: Violence and Bullying

Jungkook stared at the screen of his monitor. Numerous windows and files mocking him as he searches and digs deeper into the case given to him. This case was crucial; Jungkook knows it by now because they are after a person who loses its humanity to slaughter this number of people. He doesn't know if his sanity is ready to handle such cases yet.

A deep sigh leaves Jungkook's lips. If ever their unit accomplishes this, it means a big promotion to him and his rival, Hoseok. A big promotion means higher income that no one in their right mind will let it pass. The sudden sound of the door opening made his head whip to the room beside his cubicle. Right. The beauty who visited earlier for Yoongi-hyung's supper. The male was standing by the doorway, his back was facing him as he bids his goodbye to his brother.

As the male turned around, they accidentally made eye contact and he swears there is something uncomfortable that passed the brunette's eyes. The male made his way to him and stopped in front of his cubicle, a shy smile on his lips as he fiddles with his fingers.

"H-Hi officer..."

"Hello. How can I help you again, pretty?" he asked. He doesn't know where this sudden boost of confidence coming from is, but might as well use it before it's too late.

"I just want to thank you earlier," the male in front of him muttered with a prominent blush on his cheeks.

"No need. It's pretty normal and nothing big to thank me for."

"N-No. It's just that when I asked the other officers, they are too busy to answer or ignore me. You're the only one who spares a small time to at least answer my question."

Jungkook smiled sweetly at that, but there's a bitter taste in his mouth because who the heck ignore this beautiful human. He just wants to talk.

"It's nothing really. Don't mind it," And who dare to ignore such beauty like you? He wanted to add but thought against it. He will definitely sound creepy if he voices those out.

"I-Wait... I'm so rude. I didn't even introduce myself and just talk to you so suddenly. I'm Kim Taehyung," Taehyung said before reaching his right hand to him for a shake.

"Oh no, not at all. I'm Officer Jeon Jungkook. Thank you for giving me your name. It's awkward to just call you pretty repeatedly in my head," he provided with an innocent wink that made the brunette blush in front of him. He doesn't really mean it to come out, but seeing the other's reaction, he doesn't regret it now although he admits, it's quite a cringe.

"If I may ask, you said you're Yoongi-sunbaenim's brother, right?"

"Ah yes, I am."

"But you're a Kim and if I'm right, Boss Yoongi's a Min," after those words left his mouth, he instantly notice the shift in the atmosphere. He scolds himself for being too inquisitive for his own good. "You don't need to answer that. I'm sorry for being too nosy; I didn't even think it might be too personal."

"Sorry. I'm just uncomfortable talking about it, and we just met today also so... yeah," Taehyung supplied, rubbing his nape in embarrassment. "I need to be going now, officer. Thank you again."

"Oh yeah. Goodbye," Jungkook waved with a smile to the other before taking a deep breath. He's an idiot. He just met the younger, and he already made it awkward between them.

The brunette exit the office, a knowing smile forming on his lips as he trudges out of the area. Interesting.

It was still early in the morning when Taehyung got out of bed. His journal is placed neatly on his bedside table, along with his phone that runs out of battery overnight. He can't really recall what he did last night, but he already had an idea. It's a normal occurrence for Taehyung to be over-powered by the voices inside his head, especially when he's already having a tough day. It doesn't happen every day, just those times when he wasn't able to relax, and the stress and pressure take a toll on his body.
