What Shawn wanted from me wasn't a hard task, all he wanted was for me to stand next to him and look pretty. And let's be honest, he did a great job dressing me for the part. However, I still wish he wouldn't use me for his personal problems.

I asked him why he didn't take the girl he went on a date last night, but apparently she ditched him before the entree came out. I lightheartedly teased him about treating every social interaction as a business meeting. Sadly, I wasn't far off, turns out he kept leaving the poor girl alone while he took work calls. At least we know the issue isn't the girls he is set up with—it's him. Maybe if he stops breathing and eating his job, he would have more experience going on dates and talking to women.

Upon arrival, Shawn's mom Margaret met us at the door and she was pleased to see her son. Fortunately, she was happy to see me too, it had been awhile since I saw her. Shawn doesn't like his parents visiting the office unless it is work related. I've tried convincing him to spend time with his mom, especially since she calls him everyday. However, Shawn is persistent about ignoring her. I suppose I'd be the same if all my mom was calling for was to tell me to get married.

Anyway, for the past hour, Shawn has kept his hand on my lower back while he socializes—and I have been nervously sipping on my wine. None had asked me yet what is my occupations is—if I am being honest no one has tried to spark a conversation with me.

Men from high social status aren't curious about the women next to their so called 'friends'. I quickly learned in New York City, women are seen more as trophy wives. And the housewives are okay with that—however, I'd never let anyone belittle me. I exist. Tonight, was an exception, I was doing this for Shawn.

"It is about time I see you Shawn," Someone said from behind us, interrupting Shawn. Shawn takes his hand away from my back and turns around to greet the person. On the other hand, I didn't move a muscle—you have to be fucking kidding me. I knew that voice.

"Jason, how are you?" Shawn said happily. I looked down at the ground, hoping it would decide to open and swallow me whole.

"Great, I heard your mom talking about you arriving with someone. I had to see this with my own eyes," Jason chuckled.

Shawn laughed, "yeah, this is..." his voice trailed off as he realized I wasn't standing next to him. Run Vaughn...I lifted my head up and looked for the nearest exit. I didn't want to have this interaction. You need the job and the money, I can run even if I wish too. I took in a deep breath and turned to face Jason.

"Sorry, I was getting a phone call," I played it off.

Shawn smiled and he proceeded to wrap his arm around my waist, "This is...."

"Vaughn..." Jason eyes diverted back to Shawn. "we know each other,"

"Oh! Really?" Shawn said surprised.

I nodded, "Hello Jason," I smiled through the bitterness feeling in my stomach.

"It has been some time since I last saw you," He said.

Senior year to be exact, but who remembers right? Shawn continued to look confused.

"Vaughn—"

"Shawn!" Another familiar voice appeared. My stomach dropped and a wave of nausea hit me. Worst fucking night of my life. It never dawned on me how New York City is a big city, with a very tight circle of business men.

Jack's eyes widen, "Vaughn, what are you doing here?"

"She is Shawn's date," Jason responded, with a small smirk on his face.
