Mykonos had been something of a wild dream. It had never occured to Nadia that she missed her baby sister but the three day holiday, the sun, the beaches, the hospitality from Dio's parents, seeing parents that were caring and affectionate, it was all beautiful. Seeing Makenna and Dio was beautiful, even though it made Nadia feel like a third wheel all the time. She hadn't spent this much time with her soon-to-be brother-in-law, and though he was still quite shy he was slightly more animated in his childhood home. He was also very in love, always whispering something to a giggling Makenna or making sure no one was watching before he stole kisses from her. His beautiful eyes were almost permanently on Makenna Lewasi, and he looked at her like she was a dream.
Nadia wanted that for herself. Luckily, she had Seneca Plutarch to talk to. Dio got his shyness from his mother, that was evident the minute Nadia met the little Greek woman, surprisingly stylish and equally reticent. Seneca on the other hand immediately took Nadia under his wing.
"Effie planned all these activities and I doubt the lovebirds will be coming, so it's just me and you." He had whispered conspiratorially to her
There was something about the way he'd said lovebirds that hinted at a sarcasm Nadia particularly enjoyed, and though this was once again her having to step in because Makenna didn't want to perform her own duties, following the Plutarchs around Mykonos was the closest thing to heaven Nadia had ever known. She got to see more of the island than Makenna, whose main interests seemed to be Dio related, his childhood bedroom, places from childhood stories he'd told her, his bed. Dionysius Plutarch didn't look like it, but he must be a good lay! Nadia could only imagine that Makenna had many chances at nights like the ones she'd just had with Mik.
Mik.
Nadia could barely stop herself from thinking about him. She'd managed to not ask Dio about him, and she blamed the number of times her body trembled softly from the memory of what they'd done on the fact that they were in Greece. It was hard to imagine that someone like him had crumbled so easily in her hands. Everything about her life had taught her that incredibly gorgeous rich men preferred the models and Makennas of this world, but the way Mik had looked at her, had devoured her...
Even when her parents chose potential partners for her and Makenna, she always got the more worldly ones, the ones whose "personalities mattered more than their looks", who had achieved something or the other, was really kind. Her own parents bargained with her personality, not her looks, offered her up for what she could do not what she looked like. Hope and Alex Lewasi were mad at Makenna's engagement for many reasons, the one that kept ringing in Nadia's mind was that they would no longer have a single hot daughter they could dangle at potential mergers. All they had left now was the good girl, the obedient hardworking one. They had fully planned to marry Makenna off to the highest bidder, now all they had left as a bargaining chip was Nadia.
Nadia who couldn't tell them that a rich and handsome greek guy had been weak in the knees for her two nights in a row. He'd known Makenna too, and for longer, but it was Nadia he had wanted in his bed.
"How about Mikulas?" Seneca is asking, the mention of his name bringing Nadia back to the present
They were watching the sunset and discussing the wedding plans, the lineup to be precise. The problem was that Makenna had many friends and Dio barely had any and so the lineup was going to be full on the bride's side and short of Sao, empty on the groom's.
"I could ask him." Dio agrees, jotting it down
Nadia holds back a smile, already picturing Mik in a sharp suit standing beside her at Makenna's wedding. What would they get up to after the reception? She pushes the thought away with a suppressed giggle
