Rain pattered against the small wooden deck. Thunder shook the ground and lightning streaked across the sky. A little boy named Roan sat on his floor playing with his legos. He was only 8 years old, so his room was filled with child toys. Roan felt quite bored, so he got up and pranced out of his room into the kitchen. "I want to play outside!" He exclaimed in a high pitched voice.
His mother looked at him and then peered out the window. "You want to play in the rain sweetie?"
Roan shook his head violently and ran around the room. "Ok, you can play outside. But don't forget your raincoat!" yelled his mom.
Roan wheeled around and grabbed his black raincoat from the rack hanging next to the front door. He put on his rain boots and stepped outside. The sweet smell of rain was Roans favorite smell. He took a deep breath and ran down the wooden stairs. He jumped off the last step and landed in a puddle. Water splashed all over him. Suddenly, Roan heard something. It was like a low croak of some sort. He peeked around the house and stared at the large forest. He heard the sound again.
Roan slowly approached the forest entrance. The forest was thick, and dark. The croak echoed in the air again. Roan couldn't help himself. He ran into the woods searching for the croaking sound. The deeper he ventured into the curious woods, the darker it became. Roan took no notice of it, however. He was too focused on following the sound. As Roan was about to turn to the left, he saw a strange sight. At the base of a tree, was a small, blue Polaroid Camera. Roan had no idea what it was so he ventured over to the base of the tree. He bent down and picked it up, examining the foreign object. The camera was curiously clean, and not aged and dirty like you would imagine a camera would be in the woods. Roan wiped off the lens and looked through it. He gasped and rotated around, still looking through the lens. The forest he was now seeing through the lens, was dead and grim, which was a curious sight for Roan because the forest he had just been in was vibrant and alive. The forest he saw as he looked through the lens had no life at all. Not even the moss that hung to the side of a rock. Suddenly, Roan heard the croak again and turned towards it, still looking through the lens.
A large, cat like figure stood in between two large trees. Roan took the camera away from his face to get a better view of the figure and realized that the figure had vanished. He looked around in disbelief. Then, he put the camera back up to his eye and saw the creature again. Roan was more intrigued than he was terrified. He was only 8 after all.
Roan slowly approached the creature, still looking through the camera. It purred and walked towards Roan. He backed away and stared at the feline's furry face. He didn't feel threatened, so he stuck out his hand, hoping it would let him pet it. To his surprise, the cat-like creature extended it's head toward Roan's hand and rubbed against it. Roan put his hand on the creatures massive nose. (To put into perspective how large the thing was, the cat's nose was as large as Roan's hand.) Unexpectedly, The cat jerked back and examined the woods, as if it had heard something. Roan looked around too, studying his surroundings. The cat hissed and backed Roan into a tree as if it were protecting him from something. It circled the tree, still peering into the darkness. Then, Roan saw it. A large, wolf-like creature emerged from behind the thickets and made a deep, growling sound. It snapped its jaws and exploded towards him.
Roan screamed and ducked, dropping the Polaroid camera. When nothing seemed to happen, he raised his head and looked up. There was nothing. He grabbed the camera and hoisted it up to his eye. There, through the lens, he saw the cat and the wolf wrestling each other. Both animals had several bite marks and claw marks scattered across its body. Roan just sat there in shock, spectating the intense battle. The wolf kicked the cat to the side and set its gaze upon Roan. The boy stood up and slowly backed away. The wolf jumped forward and opened its jaws, showing its large set of teeth. Suddenly, everything went black.
