Seven Years Later:

It's been seven years since Hope and Five had got suck in the apocalypse. It's been seven years since they have seen another human. It's been seven years since they talked to their family. It's been seven years since they found out that everyone on earth was dead.

It's been seven years, and Hope was beginning to lose, well... hope. Of course, she couldn't let Five know that, otherwise, he might just lose his as well. 'Though she didn't show it, her days felt like years and she had a constant uneasy feeling in her chest. Often times, she mistaken the feeling for tiredness, a strange urge to have the day come to an end so she could sleep, or try to. She continued to catch herself forcing a smile or a laugh, and found herself spacing out more often. She and Five were twenty and still haven't made it out of the horrible apocalypse. And Hope hated it.

There were times, however, when the feeling faded and she could just breath. Most of those times consisted of her and Five just being together. Not trying to survive, not worrying about the apocalypse, not feeling like two scared kids. It was just her and Five. These were Hope's favorite moments. They would sometimes talk about what the trees and fields looked like before it all turned to ash and about there favorite treats, meals, colors, animals, and any other thing that could distract them, even if just for a moment.

One time, Hope even got Five to dance to an old record player they found, that surprisingly still worked. He was reluctant at first but then Hope simply looked at him with her big green eyes and he gave away. They danced for hours, to fast and slow songs. Hope sang along with the ones she knew while Five spun her around. On the slow songs the two would simply sway in each others embrace. A small smile crept onto Hope's face every time she thought of the memory.

"I got it, you ready?" Five's voice brought Hope from her thoughts. She shook out of her daze and watched a he brought a stool over to her and then placed it in front of her and sat on it. Hope grabbed the hair scissors from her pocket and finished placing the broken full body mirror against the side of the old pawn shop they had been staying at. She cut it to his normal style, a hard part, the dark hair falling on the ground of the abandoned parking lot. The girl hummed while she worked. She had the trace of her smile still shown across her face. Once she was done, Five shook off the excess hair and looked in the mirror to make sure Hope had gotten everything. "Perfect. You're turn." He turned to Hope and she took her place on the stool. Five cut her thick black hair an inch or two past shoulder length. It was short for the hot days but still long enough to put in a ponytail, if needed.

"You seem like you're in a good mood this morning. Care to share with the class?" Five asked as he worked. Hope's eyes widened slightly, but her body was still. She was very appreciative of the fact that Five was standing behind her and couldn't see her blush. The two had spent seven years alone, and yet, she still felt horribly awkward talking about, well... feelings.

Finally, Hope reply as nonchalantly as she could manage, "It's nothing really. I'm just glad that, of all the idiots I could've gotten stuck in the apocalypse with, I got stuck with you." She felt Five stop working for a second, and decided that that was enough touchy-feely for her. The silence that followed was slightly awkward for her, especially when she could practically feel Five smirking.

"I mean what idiot was surprised that, after ten years of know me, I had a middle name." Hope mocked the boy, remembering how he surprised he was when he found out she had a third name years ago. "In my defense, none of my siblings have a middle name and it's just not normal for me. And you never said anything about it." The boy returned with a chuckle.
