The weather was serene; windy but a little warm. Birds were perched on trees, chirping and leaves wandered aimlessly. The smell of coffee was in the air and everything seemed just perfect. Fall.
Jessica was walking in the park. She was alone, just her and her music. Randomly, she thought of an ancient phrase her grandmother told her- "If autumn leaves are slow to fall, prepare for a cold winter."
Huh, she thought. She wasn’t into superstitions, but thinking about that made her feel strange inside. Suddenly, she heard a noise, a whirring mechanical noise which seemed to be coming from all around her. Confused, she started backing away, but it was too late. Before she knew it, she was standing in some sort of a..Space-ship? Whoa!
She knew that the idea of that should send her screaming to the hills, but she was fascinated. It seemed to be pulling her in. The interior was grayish-blue. There was a monitor fixed on a console in the centre of the huge room and it displayed ancient writings with sticky notes on it. The adjoining small room had several black wires connecting to different parts of a computer monitor. The entire room was supported by six coral pillars arranged in a hexagonal pattern that met with another chronoblade.“Fantastic,” she muttered, looking around, taking it all in. Two people were standing near the console. A man and a woman. They seemed to be gaping at her like she had a pair of horns sprouting out of her head. They looked like they were in their thirties. The woman was blonde, wearing a pale pink jacket and a pair of blue jeans, which matched the man’s blue suit and a trench coat with red converse. Ha, more like sand shoes, she thought.
Before Jessica said anything she saw a picture of a twelve year old version of herself, playing on the swings, stuck to the border of the screen. It was then that she understood the gravity of the situation. Her eyes widened and she started backing away. Okay, this is creepy. Exit. STAT.
“Jessica,” the woman spoke, soothingly. “Listen to me. My name is Rose Tyler and this is the Doctor. Don’t worry, we won’t harm you.”“Oh, yeah? Give me one good reason why I should talk to you.” Jessica replied in a dauntless voice. In reality, she couldn’t find the door, so it was time for plan B. Stall.
The Doctor spoke for the first time. “Oh, darling. We’ve been longing to talk to you for an awfully long time and now this is it. I’m really sorry that this is how you’re getting to know this but..” He took a deep breath. “We’re your parents.” Tears welled up in Rose’s eyes. “We’ve been looking over you since the day you were born, but we couldn’t meet you. And now, here you are.” She choked back a sob. The Doctor put his arm around her.
