FIRST CHAPTER TW - Attempted Suicide

~1918~
"Let me in" She screams, banging on the metal door. "Please...please I need to see him" Her voice cracks as tears roll down her cheeks. Her hands have been rubbed raw along the cold steel.

"I can't let you do that, you'd put yourself at risk of catching the virus."  Carlisle calls through the door, placing his head in his hands. Lying on the cot in front of him is the half dead teenager.

"Tell.." Edward lets out a cough "Tell her, I love her. That she is the only one I could ever love."

"I won't have too, you can tell her yourself once I treat you"

"I've accepted my fate, you don't need to lie to me"

"She's been out there since you were admitted, hasn't left or gotten a wink of sleep" The doctor mutters, flipping through the medical papers on the bedside table.

"She's always been stubborn." Edward laughs, letting out a rocky breath.

Carlisle recalls the words of Edward's mother.
Do anything you can to save my son.
Anything.
The poor boy looks pale as a ghost, and has dark bags residing under his eyes. He's 17, who knows what he is destined for in the future. Outside the room he hears the quiet sobs of Eve, the girl who would die for Edward.

"I can save you...but I need your permission"

"Permission?"

"If I do this, it will be the worst pain you have ever suffered, and will change your life forever."

"What do you mean?"

"I...could make you immortal."

"Like...a vampire?"

"Exactly like a vampire"

"What? Vampires aren't real" Carlisle opens his mouth and flashes his fangs at the boy who has a puzzled look on his face.

"What about her?"

"Eve?"

"Yes, What will you tell her?"

"I'll tell her you died, that you wanted me to tell her you loved her before you went."

"Why can't you turn her too?"

"I can't take her life away from her"

"She has no one here to support her but me, she...her parents are dead, if I turn, how will she be safe?"

"You can still see her, and check on her, she just can't know you're alive"

"Do it, anything to protect her."

Before he can react, he feels two sharp pains in his neck, draining his blood. The pain is almost insufferable, but the thought of Eve makes it less miserable.

"Ms. Evans, I'm sorry, but he didn't make it"

Those words would haunt her forever. They echoed through her head like a song you can't name, a feeling you can't quite shake. Although she prided herself on her independence, a world without Edward was like a lake with no water, truly pointless. Her heart beat for Edward, he was the kindest boy she had ever met. They met when they were both innocent children, unaware of how painful and cruel the world was.
