Why must you?

Prologue

It was another busy morning, but perhaps a little more busier than usual. I started my day by hurrying to my favorite coffee shop and ordering an Iced Latte. I hopped in my car and there was lots of traffic, but I wasn't late in the hospitals's log in so that was a relief. 

Being a medical student is not all fun and games. Yes, It is my dream to become a medical professional someday, to be someone that can be there for my friends and family anytime that they need me medically, but maybe pursuing this is hindering me from being there for them. 

It also wasn't easy for me to be here in this hospital, as an Intern, I have no experience in working in a real hospital.  I'm still confused as to how I will survive all this hands-on patient care. 

" Charles! Ano ba yan! Stop being so clumsy nga! Test tube yan here sa lab, baka magalit si Prof if you dropped that ha! I swear talaga you'd be dead even before you become a resident! " Michelle rolled her eyes at me while I was holding the test tube that has the specimen inside it.  I let out a laugh and replied. 

" Hindi naman, wag ka magalala. By the way, have you done your case study? Dalawa sayo diba? How unfortunate. " I replied while she frowned at me. 

" Tse Charles! Porket tapos ka na ha! Bakit gagawin mo ba sa akin? " Michelle shot back and leaned closer to me, with pouted lips and wiggling her body. 

" Lumayo ka nga." I said, pushing her away from me by grabbing her shoulders. 

 " And no, I won't do it. Para saan pa nag-aaral tayo kung ako lang naman ang matututo? Kaya mo yan. I'll give you pointers. "

" Hmp! Sungit and blunt na naman as always! Dapat sinabi mo nalang na you won't do it, dami pa sinabi eh. " She said and jokingly  rolled her eyes.  I imitated what she said in a higher pitched voice and laughed. 

" Charles, ano baaaaa!" She exclaimed, but silently. Baka kasi marinig siya ng superiors namin. 

" Michelle, ano ba yan! Kanina pa kita tinatawag to attend to that patient! Why aren't you responding!! Nakikipagbiruan ba ako sayo? You think this is your playground?! " Our strict prof said. 

" N-n-no Sir.. I'll be there right away po. " She replied shyly and walked away. 

" Ikaw naman Charles, Maground ka. Stop lazying around. Nasa surgery superior mo. Do his rounds. " he said to me, akala ko sisigawan ako eh. Wala talagang takas kahit sino. 

" Yes Sir. I was just about to do that. If you'll excuse me po. " I said politely while making my way to the elevator up to the second floor, sa mga ward. 

To be honest, wala naman talaga akong problema dito. It's not that toxic.. yet. I'm also kind of prepared to what my life will be choosing this profession kasi ang kuya ko medical professional din, but he migrated now to Canada kasi he needs funds to support me, and that's why I'm so on the go. I cannot let him down lalo na he's paying all my expenses and providing me with my needs. 

As I reached the elevator, I pressed the up button and waited for it to open.

Only to see a injuired man covered in blood.
