Conversations went on and on as Karma drives both of them to their destination. Okuda had ask plenty of things especially details about his career since he had been very busy. She misses his stories deeply. She remembers everyday whenever they stay late in school to create Karma some poisons for his everyday pranks - he would tell her everything and she, too, would tell him everything. It was something special to her and she hopes that only she shares this sort of thing with this man beside her, but then again, the possibility of her being the only one he shares with is slim. She admits Karma-kun is a man of both looks and professionalism - anyone would be attracted to this red head, which makes her hopeless - there's just so much competition to and there is no way on Earth she can beat any of them.
She shakes her head. What is she thinking? Does she think she'll build some type of romance with him? She's too busy to begin with! She can't even be on time for the reunion let alone have time for an actual boy friend. . . Regardless of who it is, she will not allow a man to ruin the things she has planned for herself; not now at least, even Akabane Karma cannot break her walls of dream and determination.
Karma then hits the brakes - the car fully stops and Okuda slightly leans forward, disrupting her thoughts. She looks at the surroundings and see Isogai's family restaurant in sight. She curves a smile as the excitement rushes through her body. Perhaps seeing another friend would help her think of other things - perhaps she was just nostalgic, that's why it was all about Karma-kun - perhaps she's just distracted at the fact that she is only with Karma-kun. Perhaps.
Okuda was ready opens the car door and attempts to stand from the passenger seat, but to her surprise the seatbelt pushes her back to her back. Well, wasn't that embarrassing to watch? She heaves a sigh and avoids eye contact from him. She hears him crack a chuckle. She must look really stupid in front of him right now. . .
She feels him leaning towards her, wait what? She immediately looks at his direction - his face it's getting nearer and nearer. Her eyes widen at the sight of a now closer Akabane Karma in front of her. She's seen too much romance films to know what's about to happen! Perhaps. . . Okuda can let this one slide. . . just today and just him. She closes her eyes and her slightly pucks her lips, gripping on the seat belt across her body.
She hears the click of the seat belt's buckle. So, that's what he was doing. . . Her eyes immediately opens wide and her lips now pursed. Why does she keep embarrassing herself in front of him?
"Cute," she hears him let out a gibberish noise - in which she fails to understand. She raises an eyebrow upon the sound of this word or whatever it is called. She thinks that it's probably in English - a class she never took as an elective during her College years, in which now she regrets because of two things - one, to be able to communicate to larger markets and two, to be able to understand what Karma was conveying.
She slightly panics - what if it means stupid or dumb - or - or, something worse?! She is unsure whether she wants to learn the word or not. . . maybe she's a bit thankful for not learning English; maybe.
She sighs and finally stands, marching out of the car, leaving Karma behind - honestly, tonight has been hell of a ride for her, she embarrassed herself quite enough in front of him, so she decides not show her face for now. She hears his footsteps nearing her already - darn his long legs, she can't even walk ahead of him even when she went out first.
"Hey, hey, don't leave me like that Okuda-san!" He whines, grabbing her shoulder and she stiffens at his touch. He gently holds both her shoulders and turns her to face him. Okuda looks down, she refuses to look at him especially having to embarrass herself twice in a row. "It's fine Okuda-san, you're fine," he tells her this possibly in the softest way she's heard him spoke all day.
Her lips part, unable to speak - she's thought of romance every now and then. . .she's read countless of romance novels and watched a lot of films, and she was sure that this is how every protagonist feels about their lover. It was sweet, gentle, and reassuring. It's something she's been wanting to feel for quite a while now, but no man seems to touch her heart in the same way he does.
She relaxes her shoulders - her tense fades as Karma smiles at her. For another moment, again. . .with him, she feels a bit different - somehow she feels seen as a woman and not just that chemist next door. For a brief moment, she finally stares at him sharing the same look with him - the look of content and happiness.
"I'm happy when I'm with you."
