"Dad! We'd better hurry up or there will be absolutely nowhere for us to sit on the train." Albus shouted at his father as the Potter family scurried down platform 9 and 3/4.
"Don't worry Albus, I'm sure Scorpius will have saved you a seat", Harry laughed at his son, something he was grateful to be able to do after the years of animosity between them.
The potter family slowed to a walk as the crowd on the platform thickened, pools of tearful families wishing their children luck on their first year at Hogwarts and those emotional because it would be the last of the first days for their older children.

Albus, Lily and James Potter hurriedly said goodbye to their parents and bustled onto the Hogwarts express before it took off. Lily and Albus waved out of the window to Harry and Ginny as the train began Its journey to Hogwarts.
"Well", Lily began awkwardly, "my friends have saved me a seat so I guess I'll see you once we get to school?".
"Yeah Lil, don't worry about me, like I said,I'm sure Scorpius will have saved me a spot."
Albus smiled as his sister walked away, unbelieving that she was now a fourth year.

He walked along the train carriages for five minutes, searching for a sign of his blonde headed best mate. He decided that the next empty carriage he saw would be his spot for the journey. Albus opened the door of a seemingly empty carriage, peering inside only to observe the tear stained face of Polly Chapman.
"Uhhh, mind if I sit, everywhere else is full."
Polly huffed and wiped the tears from her red rimmed eyes, "whatever Potter, just keep silent or I'll hex you."
Ignoring her threat, Albus wondered what was upsetting her, "are you okay Polly?" He asked.

"I said shut up Potter!" She shouted, causing Albus to blush bright red with embarrassment.
Despite his anguish, Albus pressed her further,
"I understand we're not friends Polly, but I would genuinely like to know what's bothering you."

"Why would you care about how I'm feeling Potter?" Polly queried angrily.
"Because I know the feeling of thinking you're not able to talk to someone about your problems, and it sucks."
Polly softened at his response, " It's just home stuff, no big deal." She whispered.

Surprised by her openness, Albus asked again, "would you like to talk about it?"
And so the rest of the journey was spent discussing Polly's terribly matched parents, her cat named Muffin and an occasional joke about the Hogwarts faculty.
"I never thought I'd say this, but you're pretty alright Potter." Polly announced, smirking.
"Well I guess you're pretty alright yourself Chapman." Albus replied, Blushing once again.

The train slowed to a stop as both Polly and Albus collected their belongings to depart.
"So, will I see you around, I mean we are in the same house and year." Albus asked shyly.
"I'm not so sure about that Potter." Polly shook her head.
Albus was about to reply when a large group of Slytherin girls stopped at their carriage, Beckoning Polly to Join them.
"See you Potter" Polly mumbled as she walked out the door to join them.

Albus waved limply but lowered his hand as he heard the conversation of the girls,
"What in Merlin's name were you doing in a carriage with Potter!?" A girl exclaimed.
Polly responded quickly, flicking her deep brown hair over her shoulders casually, "Oh we both got to the train late and so it was the last resort, he is so boring and weird".
The rest of the girls laughed cruelly, walking away from the carriage as they made their way onto the Hogsmeade platform.

Albus smiled to himself, the interaction he had had with Polly felt like a dream already. A good dream, but a dream all the same. He walked out onto the platform to find Scorpius and Rose, Hand in hand, frantically worried that he had not made it onto the train. Albus nodded along as they talked about their holidays but couldn't seem to keep focus. He looked over to the group of Slytherins who had mocked him on the train and he found Polly's blue eyes on a vacant face. They made eye contact, only to both immediately look away from one another.

Albus wondered if maybe, just maybe, it hadn't been a dream after all.
