The princess and the scoundrel

Trish sat on her rock again, singing like she always does. But she didn't hear the giggling and hollering from a boy who had come out to swim late at night.

The boy was named Narancia Ghirga, a mischievous teenager who didn't think too hard about things and made decisions on the fly.

Trish's singing caught his attention, and he looked over to the source. He saw the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. The elegance that radiated off of her drew him in, and he got in the water to get closer to her, forgetting that he didn't know how to swim.

He got the the deep water. He was almost face to face with her. Just a little more...

He slipped and started flailing around to try and catch his balance. Water started filling his lungs and nose. He called for help.

Trish heard the boy's cries, and paused her singing to look up and see him struggling to get any air. She contemplated... She could put herself and her whole kingdom in potential danger, or she could sit here and watch this boy die in front of her. She quickly made her decision.

She dove into the water and swam over to the struggling boy. She wrapped her arms around him and swam to shore.

She threw him on the sand and watched him to make sure he was alright. The boy started coughing and coughing, trying to get the water out of himself.

The boy opened his eyes to something he couldn't believe. The girl he was so infatuated with was sitting over him. "Hey, are you okay? I saw you struggling in the water, and I thought I'd help you." He blushed a deep red. "Yeah... I'm alright. Thank you." The position they were in felt so intimate... He wanted to kiss her so much...

The girl smiled down at him and took his hand in hers. "I'm glad you're alright. Please don't tell anyone about this. I'm not supposed to be talking to humans."

Narancia hardly registered what she said as he replied "A-alright..."

The mermaid smiled at him. "Alright then. Arrivaderci, you little scoundrel." She said to him, as she swam back out to sea.

Narancia sat there bewildered.
