The Library

The electric blue-grey storm clouds rolled overhead as I scurried to my dorm hall-Broomhurst Hall. lightning flashes as my feet crashed down into the nearby puddles, soaking the legs of my denim jeans. The mushy green-brown ground squishing under my weight. I rushed to the old looking wooden double doors, careful of not slipping. I successfully got inside and made my way up the spiral staircase to my dorm room to drop off my school bag so I could head straight to the library.

My dorm room wasn't really much to look at. With yellowish white painted walls, a desk to the left of my messy looking bed, a pile of laundry sitting at the edge, and an old electric guitar with reddish orange paint chipping off in the middle of it all. I looked out the window, seeing the sky was still a gloomy grey colour. How am I supposed to meet Dan at the library now? I couldn't walk, and I didn't have a car so I could drive there.

I pulled out my phone and texted Dan.

Dan, I'm so sorry I can't make it today. It's storming out, and my car still isn't fixed yet.. I have no way to get there.

I sent that 20 minutes ago, and still no reply. Was he mad at me? Or did he just not want to talk to me?

A few more minutes passed by, and there was a knock at my door. I stood up and walked over, opening the door to find that it was Dan on the other side.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

He just looked at me like I did the weirdest thing he had ever seen, saying, "Well, since you couldn't make it to the library on your own, I thought I would drive over and take you there myself." He said, smiling.

We stepped back out into the cold, rainy outside world and out of the protection of the warm inside of the university, we climbed into his crappy, run-down Escape and drove straight to the library.

It was warm and cozy inside- typical for a library. the musty smell of books filled my nose as I inhaled. The reddish colored bookshelves shined with the reflection of the sunshine, multiple chairs pushed out and scattered, a big table in the middle of all the tall bookshelves filled to the brim with fascinating books.

I smiled. "Lets get down to business."
