Bitter Chocolate
Did hot chocolate always taste this bitter? Danny stared into her mug dejectedly. Christmas seemed less sweet as well. She used to love the holiday, but it was kind of hard to remember why right now. She took another sip of hot chocolate and grimaced. It tasted of loneliness. Maybe it would taste sweeter if Laura was..
No, she scolded herself, you're not thinking of her. That was the hundredth time that morning she'd told herself that. She wished there was something to hit. Things were easier with a target, but right now there was only herself. Laura had gone her own way, and Carmilla wasn't... well yeah, she was a bitch, but a bitch who made Laura happy. And if she didn't, Danny still had that stake.
Great, now I'm thinking of her again. A tear rolled down her cheek and she brushed it away angrily. Crying didn't fix anything. She was tough, she would get through this.
A knock at the door distracted her,
"Yeah, come in." She hoped her voice sounded normal. The door swung inward and in walked the Summer Society. All of them, Elsie in the lead. Most of them were carrying covered plates.
"We figured you might not want to be alone." Danny smiled at them,
"You know you don't need to worry about me."
"Actually, based on your recent behavior, we do." Elsie told her, "You're workouts have been... aggressive. Laura is on your mind, and sitting alone on Christmas really isn't going to help. We brought food. Come on, it'll be fun." Danny nodded, and her sisters swarmed in. It was a tight fit, but it felt cosy.
Oh yeah, this is what's great about Christmas. Danny thought, looking around. She took another gulp of hot chocolate, and smiled at the sweetness.
