Every Star For You

Well, Laura figured that as far as Christmas went it could have been worse. At least they finally had a warm place to sleep, and the bakery had plenty of food for them. And Carmilla was there.

It was getting pretty late, so Perry and LaFontaine were curled in one corner of the room, while Laura and Carmilla occupied another. Laura was almost asleep when she felt Carmilla move. She looked up and saw Carmilla slip outside. Without even thinking, she wrapped herself in her blanket and followed.

"Well, isn't it past your bedtime, Cupcake?" Carmilla was leaning against the side of the building, giving Laura her usual smirk.

"What about you? Aren't you a little tired from murdering a creepy gingerbread witch for Christmas?" Laura asked her,

"Nope, nocturnal, remember? I just came out to see the stars." Laura moved over to her and threw her blanket around them both. After a moment's hesitation, Carmilla put her arm around her.

"You can see a lot of stars here." Laura commented, staring up at the sky, Carmilla nodded,

"Yes... and mortals live as many lives as stars in the sky. All those little glimmers of life in the midst of the void..." Laura glanced at Carmilla. The vampire was looking at her with a strangely sad expression on her face.

"What's wrong?" Carmilla sighed,

"Someday, the light of this star will fade." She reached up a hand and stroked Laura's cheek, "When that time comes, who knows how long it will be until the next one shines. Or where." Laura looked at her,

"Wait... are you... worried about the future?"

"When you're an immortal, you learn to think ahead, Creampuff." Carmilla shrugged. Laura could tell she was still uncomfortable though. Which was sweet. She leaned in and kissed Carmilla on the cheek.

"Well, I want to give you all of my stars. I know I won't remember, but I think something will be missing without you. So... Look for me." Carmilla looked down and smiled,

"I'll find you." She said quietly. Then she took Laura's hand and led her inside,

"Come on, Cutie. You probably need your sleep, or something." Laura followed her without protest.

Carmilla held her as she fell asleep, and couldn't resist a smile as, right when Laura started to drift off, she whispered,

"All of my stars are yours."
