Sebastian and the Moon

IT WAS A full moon.

You couldn't help but notice it as it hung high above the night sky. A pale, circular orb that shined against the dark sky. It was so big, yet so far away, as if in a blink it'd disappear. But it was always there as you gazed out your porch and watched it with a sudden longness.

To others, the moon represented night. They cowered away from it, rejoicing once the sun cast its darkness away. But to you, the moon brought you comfort and made it seem like you were not alone.

Alone. Your mind automatically went to a certain dark haired boy. He often was isolated and cast away from town. On nights like this, staring up at the sky, he reminded you of the moon: sad and alone.

You sighed and looked back up at the sky. You knew Sebastian was at the festival now, the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies. Was he staring up at the moon like you were?

"Y/N!" a voice shouted, breaking the night's silence.

Your head darted to the voice, where the shadows revealed Sam. Even darkness could not hide the light of his smile as he grinned at you.

"What are you doing here?" you called out from the porch.

"The night has only started!" he exclaimed, way too excited. "You're going to miss out on the festival. Don't you want to see the jellyfish?"

"That festival is so useless, Sam! Do I really need to see glowing creatures leaving?"

In truth, you didn't want to go because it was your birthday. You didn't tell anyone about it, not even Sam, and you didn't want to ruin their plans of celebrating this festival because of you. You wanted to stay home and sleep, not watch a useless event.

"Beautiful glowing creatures," he corrected.

"I'm not going."

"Please!"

"I have to wake up early tomorrow. I'd love my good night's sleep." You turned to leave, ready to crash into bed.

"Sebastian is there, sitting at the docks alone," he drawled out with a tease. "It's like he's waiting for someone."

You looked back only to see him smiling knowingly. Sam knew that there was something going on between Sebastian and you, even if you weren't labelled as anything. You didn't even know yourself. You just knew that whenever you looked at him, your face would grow hot and you'd stammer on your words.

Still, the thought of seeing Sebastian again made you giddy.

You walked past Sam, making a point not to look at him. "Maybe I'll go check out what this whole festival is about."

He laughed and followed behind you. "I thought you would."

The ocean at night was much prettier than you expected.

You mostly went during the days where the ocean was a murky green, seagulls would flap around you, and the sun seemed scorching. But at night was a whole different story. The winds stroked you gently and the stars dotted the night skies like freckles. Lanterns floated along the waters and swayed back and forth.
