(Jace's POV)
When the bell rang to head to my next class, I gathered my things and was leaving when Rose stopped me.
“Is something wrong?” I asked nervously. I wanted to get away from her. It was just too weird. Inviting her to look at my paintings was weird and stupid. I should have avoided her. I should have stayed very clear of her.
“Oh no.” She said. “Can I ask you a question?” She asked me.
I nodded, “Sure.” Please don’t think i’m weird.
“Do you believe in soulmates?”
I wrinkled my brows. “Like there is only one person for you?”
“Yes, exactly like that.”
“I don’t have an opinion on that.”
“Why not?” She asked me.
“I don’t know. I just don’t. Penelope does but I am sure that is because she is a girl.”
Rose waved her hand like she was pushing my words away. “Your parents aren’t madly in love with each other?” She asked.
I looked away and replied. “My parents didn’t raise me. My grandmother did and she is a widow.” I grabbed ahold of my bag and looked at Rose. Some strange girl. A pretty girl albeit, but a strange one. She looked like one that would fit into Liams world.I didn’t wait for her to respond. I just clutched my bag closer to me and high tailed it out and away from her. Seeing her was weird. Too weird.
When school let out I headed towards my truck as quickly as I could to avoid getting soak and remembered my trucks battery is dead. Shoot!
Jace sat in his truck and tried to turn the ignition over, nothing. He begged the truck to roar to life, nothing.
He gave up and rested his head on the steering wheel. He let out a deep breath, hugged his jacket closer to his body and jumped out of the truck. Jace lifted the hood and tried to see if there was something he could do. But his truck just sat there and staring at the engine wasn’t going to magically produce a solution.
“Awesome.” Jace said to himself. “Just great. Now I have to wait for someone to jump start me or I walk home and bring a battery back tomorrow. Just my freakin’ luck.” To bad Penelope has drama practice. Grrr.
Jace collected his bag, pulled his hat on then locked up the truck and headed for home. Jace made it out of the school yard and the rain turned into a downpour.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Jace mumbled in anger. Cars drove past him as they headed for home and every time they hit a puddle Jace had to jump out of the way before he was drenched. Jace was prepared to leap out of the way once more when he heard another vehicle approach.
Jace started to move away when the Vehicle come to a halt beside him. He looked over and came face to face with a 1969 black Mustang.
The door opened and sitting in the driver seat was Rose. “Need a lift?” She asked with a cute smile. No! not cute.
Jace looked at her and slowly a smile crept on to his face. I’m screwed. “Thank you.” He said as he slid into her car and shut the door. This could be very bad very quickly.
(Roses POV)
When the last bell rang Jace had jumped up from his seat and headed out of class. Rose tried to follow him but he was quick and maneuvered himself through the crowd of people quite easily. Rose finally let him go and went to retrieve her car.
Low and behold sitting on his car was Liam.
“Hey sweetheart.” He said as he gave her a smile that probably made idiotic girls swoon. Not me though. “So I was going to go over to the cafe and was hoping you would accompany me.”
Rose chuckled. “Ah, well I already have some very exciting plans to attend to.”
Liam replied. “Perhaps afterwards then? What time will you be done?”
“I don’t know. Can you do me a favor?” I asked him.
“Sure.”
“Get off my car.” I told him.
Liam gave me an odd look as she slid off the car slowly. He was probably not used to girls treating him this way.“Alright. There you go. Look, you have my number. So just call me sometime.” He said as I got into the car.
“Oh thank you for reminding me.” I told him as I dug in my pocket and handed him a piece of paper.
Liam smiled and read what it as I started the car and turned the heater on. “This is the note I wrote you earlier.” He said holding it out to me.
“I know.” I told him. “Have a good day.” I said as I pulled out of my parking space.
Liam stood there in shock as Rose pulled away and drove down the schools driveway.
Rose cranked the heater as high as it could go and was about to pull away from the school when she noticed Jace. He started to move away when she drove closer to him. She pulled to a stop and he looked over at the car. Rose threw the door open and asked, “Need a lift?”
Jace looked at her and slowly a smile crept on to his face. His smile sent a shiver through her body. “Thank you.” He said as he slid into her car and shut the door.
