"We've been in love before, or maybe you haven't. But..... have you ever had to choose between your job or the girl? It's a tough choice to make, But one doesn't pick an answer easily....because you love both, but which one do you love more...and you have to choose....so what about you Jack?"

....

"What do you choose?"

San Francisco, 6:25AM September 3rd, 1947

A small apartment downtown...a Young man in his early 20s lays in bed asleep, With the bay being foggy along with the sounds of cars and streetcars outside.

The Bedroom door slams open, "JACK DODGE! YOU WAKE UP THIS INSTANT!" Yelled a female voice. The man in bed groaned, He clearly didn't want to wake up. A woman in her late 40s walked in and tapped the man on the head, "Up and at it Jack! It's your first day!". Jack grumbled and rose out of his Murphy Bed, "mmm I'm awake Mrs. Finch" Jack mumbled as he trudged sleepily toward his closet to get dressed. Mrs. Finch, the Landlady, then walked out of the room. "First day at the SFPD huh?" Mused Jack as he put on his suit. He grabbed his belongings and put on his Fedora and walked out.

Jack walked in the main lobby of the apartment to a waiting Ms. Finch. "Oh Jack, You look very Handsome dear!" Exclaimed Mrs. Finch. "Thank You....I guess" Replied Jack in a sad way. Something was up with Jack, and Mrs. Finch knew it, "Jack...I know what your thinking...your Father would be very proud of you" "I know, I wish they were here to see me now...". Jack Dodge, Born in 1926, his Father was a Train Engineer for Southern Pacific and his mother stayed at home. Soon enough, the war came and drafted Jack's father. His last letter said he was heading to Okinawa. . . September 2nd of 45, He didn't come home. Mrs. Finch was a close family friend, she understood Jack. "It's okay Dear, Now go out there and make your Father proud" "I will."

Jack walked out to a busy and foggy San Francisco...'The City' people called it. Jack hailed a taxi and hopped in. The taxi driver turned around with a soft smile, "Where to this beautiful morning sir?" "Uh, Central Police station, please" "Sure thing". The cab arrived and Jack paid the driver and walked towards the station. Jack stood and looked forward, through those doors, his life would change. Jack took a deep breath and sighed. "Well...A case I get today might keep those creeps away."
