When I met everyone, we were still so naive and simple, all we wanted to do was stay alive. We hoped for the bare minimum every single day, even if we were starving or cold or tired, we were all greatful that we were alive. After seeing the people we love and care about die in front of us we became more than that, we grew a motivation that could only develop through trauma. It was no longer enough to survive, we needed to be more.
We had seen so many people close to us die horribly and we couldn't stand around and let that happen anymore. We wanted to make a difference, to try and save one person, then another and more after that.
Our family of 8 quickly grew into 15 and then 21, leaving us now with over 30 members of our "family". I will never consider the others as family, even though we're supposed to. No one will ever mean more to me than the ones it all started with, they are my family. they are my only family
