The sun was high in the sky as Ophelia and Leporis left their work building. The light radiating from the sun refracted in the glass that made up the skyscrapers that littered the city like stars in the night sky, and the peaceful landscape was occasionally disturbed by the woosh of an air-car soaring past them as the 2 coworkers walked alongside each other, admiring the occasional flora scattered beside the paths.
The duo eventually reached a park where they settled down and ate their lunch. As they were eating, a large TV located on the side of a building lit up, broadcasting the flag of Digita, the place they lived in, and the Digitan government's symbol.
"Hello citizens of Digita!"
Everyone stopped what they were doing to look at what was happening on the screen.
"Just a warning - a small part of the wall surrounding our city has been destroyed, but not to worry, the construction team will be there shortly to fix it. Please take caution to avoid the area at all costs. Thank you!"
A jingle played as the logo faded away from the screen, and everyone went back to what they were originally doing. Ophelia turned to Leporis.
"Have we ever seen beyond the wall?"
"I don't think we have... I wonder why the government is always so adamant on keeping us away from the outside?"
Ophelia suddenly stood up, sandwich in hand. "Well, today's the only day where we can see what it's like if we hurry."
Leporis hesitated for a second, and then got himself on his feet. "Sure, let's go."

The two friends arrived at the large, metal wall that enclosed the whole city and stared at the hole that had been created. The area was dead silent, and the construction workers hadn't arrived yet. Ophelia walked closer to the hole, and gestured for Leporis to follow her lead. They both slowly headed towards it, with every step revealing how strange the outside looked. It looked perfect, but everytime they took a step towards it, the buildings seemed to ripple, almost like an illusion. They reached the hole, and looked into it, confused and intrigued. Ophelia and Leporis looked at each other, and the latter walked to cross the border.
Leporis approached the border, and the image of the "perfect" outer world faded instantly. What revealed in place of it was a wasteland, the ruins of a once flourishing city. The bright light that glimmered from Digita's bustling city was a huge contrast to the dark and gloomy aura that radiated from the rubble. Digita looked quite out of place amongst the dark browns, greys, and blacks of the devastation. Leporis stood there long enough for Ophelia to observe all this for herself. They looked in silence and they both processed what they were seeing before their eyes. After a while, Ophelia turned to Leporis. "Are you seeing what I'm seeing?"
"Yeah... What happened here?"
"I don't know... Is this what the government wanted to keep away from us so badly?"
"I see no other answer."
He paused for a bit.
"Should we head back?"
"Yes... Let's."
