10 - Something Strange

Madison's POV

I pushed him away. "Alfred, what was that?" I asked him.

"I'm sorry Madison, I.... I.... lost my mind for a second. I thought about Helen." his tone changed, a sad voice of his. 

"Well, let's just forget about this. Let's not make it a big deal" I replied. 

"I sincerely apologize, it won't happen again." he replied. He is avoiding eye contact, I bet he is pretty embarrassed. 

"Let's go back to Elmyra" I said sounding like nothing awkward happened. 

We walked together again, but in silence. He didn't say anything as we walk back to work. He seems like he is thinking. This is the first time I ever saw him like he is distracted, he lost his cool after what happened. 

I stopped walking in front of Elmyra's entrance and he stopped too. 

"If you're thinking about what happened, it's fine, it's nothing. We are friends." I assured him. 

He looked at me again, with that sad face of his. I was hoping to hear anything from him, but he remained silent. 

"Don't act like that, I am starting to worry." I said to him. 

"You were so young when Helen..... I mean Margaret left. right?" he asked. He sounded sad still. 

"Yes, I only remember a few things" I replied. 

He touched his hair a bit. "It turns out I've known her better than anyone." he spoke. 

"Maybe" I said to him. He walked away, still thinking very deeply.

I stayed in my office for the following hours. I am hoping that Charles would show up and save me from this boredom. 

I texted him:

To: Charles

        haven't heard anything from u in a while. I miss u already :(

Charles responded after a few minutes. 

From: Charles

         I'm in a very long meeting. I miss u more 

To: Charles

         Will we go home together?

From: Charles

         Yes. I'll see you at 4 pm 

To: Charles

          I can't wait to see you :)))

He didn't respond. I bet he is in a very serious meeting.

At 4 pm, Charles finally showed up at my office. I ran to him and gave him a hug. 

"It seems like we haven't seen each other for years" he said. 

"I just felt so bored and I missed you" I said to him. We kissed and it felt like it was really right. My lips are only made for his own. 

"The children probably misses us more" I said to him. 

"Yes, maybe we should go somewhere this weekend" he said. 

"We should do that, let's spend some time together as a family without anyone or anything to think about." I said excitedly. 

"Let's go" Charles said then he smiles. His face really is beautiful, that I can spend the rest of my life just looking at it. 

We walked out of my office and saw Alfred and Luke they are talking. 

"Charles, Madison" Alfred spoke. 

"Alfred....Luke" Charles responded. 

"So you're heading home?" Luke asked me. 

"Yes, we're going home early" I replied.

Charles and Alfred just looked at each other without saying anything. Something's off between this two. 

"We should be going" I said and held Charles' hand. 

"See you tomorrow" Luke said. I waved goodbye to him and left them to speak again. 

"Is there  bad blood between you two?" I asked Charles. 

"Me and?" he asked. 

"You and Alfred, it feels like you do" I said. 

"I don't trust him. I have a bad feeling about him" he said. 

"But why did you agreed to have a project with him?" I asked. 

"I can't, since before my mother died there is a first contract that states Alfred's company and ours have to collaborate for at least one project. If I didn't agree to work with him, he can file a lawsuit and sue us" he replied. 

"When the project is over, everything will be done and I can stop working with him" he continued.

Later that night, a man wearing black is walking near the Newman's neighborhood. He saw Relina with the two Newman children from the window.
