"Hey, Jo. It's Diane."

"Diane? Oh my God! Where have you been? I was worried sick." I answered, giving a sigh of relief. I felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off me and for the first time since last night, I felt like I could breathe.

"Yeah, about that," She started. "I'm sorry, Jolene. I didn't want to do it but the guys insisted."

"What are you talking about?" My eyebrows pulled together in confusion. What was she trying to say?

"It was a prank, Jo. Nothing happened to me. I'm fine."

"What? A prank?" I scoffed in disbelief. She took a while to reply.

"I'm sorry. I told them it wasn't funny."

"Did Alex know about this? Was he a part of this?" I asked, frowning. I was started to get really annoyed. This entire thing had been a prank? What kind of person played such a sick prank? I had been worried for hours. I thought something bad had actually happened to her.

"No, he didn't but he would have figured it out if you told him what had happened. We've pulled that prank on him before."

That explained why she had insisted I not tell Alex and why he had said Diane had been at home with Michael. He had no idea of their awful prank.

"That was a shitty prank, Diane! You don't joke about things like that! I was really worried."

"Well, I've paid for it heavily. I lost my iPhone in the process of pranking you. I must have dropped it at the garden by accident and someone obviously picked it up cause it's not there anymore."

"Actually, your phone-"

"My phone is gone forever. Find my iPhone isn't enabled on my phone, so, I can't track it down."

"Don't worry. The phone's with-"

"I'll see you at seven, okay? Bye!" She cut me off once again and hung up right after. I set down the phone confused. Why did it seem like she was deliberately cutting me off? Surely she had important things stored on her phone. She must have wanted them back. I hadn't even told her that her brother had called and he had been worrying about her. I made a mental note to tell her at dinner.

The conversation I had with Diane kept reechoing in my head the entire ride to her house. I had a strange feeling about it and Alex wasn't doing anything to help that.

"I can't believe they pulled a prank like that."

"They do it to everyone. It's their thing." Alex chuckled.

"Well, Diane's a very convincing actress. I totally bought it." I said, turning away from the window. I leaned my head back on the head rest of my seat and closed my eyes.

"Yeah. That she is." He agreed. "She's also a pro at loosing phones apparently. She lost her phone and John's last night."

"John was a part of it?" I gasped, glancing at Alex in shock. John was Alex's cousin. He was the tech brain of the group. He was smallish looking at five feet five inches. He was dark skinned and wore aspheric lensed glasses that made him look bug-eyed. It made him look so adorable and innocent. He was also really nice. It was hard to imagine someone like him rolling with the crowd he rolled with. It was also hard to imagine that he would have been a part of this horrible prank. However, considering he was helping his friends hack the security systems of several houses so they could break in and play games, his moral compass wasn't all that straight.
