Chapter 18

Paige felt a tugging on her arm. She looked over at Kyle, who was trying to get her attention. The look in his eyes made her follow him, wordlessly, to the other side of the room.

Paige desperately looked at her friend in the eyes, searching for some sort of answer, or guidance. She was certainly in uncharted territory.

Kyle swiped a hand at his shining eyes and cleared his throat. "Paige, if that really is...Billie, then you should proceed with caution. You don't know what she's been through. For her, it will have been a lifetime since the fight at the Atlantis Library."

She was shaking with anger, emotion coursing through her veins. "I know, Kyle, I know, It's just...I can't..." Her words seemed to fail her.

"Before you speak to her, I'd advise you to reign in your anger a bit. At least listen to her explanation before ripping into her. Think about it Paige, if this really a second chance to say goodby to Billie, do you really want to spend it screaming at her?"

He had a good point. She stooped down to hug her friend, whispering her thanks. He smiled at her, and waved his hand toward the kitchen table, gesturing for her to go back.

Kyle walked into the living room, toed off his shoes, and curled up on the couch. He pulled a steaming hot pocket, complete with a flimsy paper plate, out of thin air. He wasn't a wizard though, of course not. A small smile played across her lips as she rejoined her companion at the kitchen table, not exactly ready for the conversation that was about to happen.
