Akaashi didn't like to think he was to blame for his parent's unhappiness. He liked to believe that without him born things would've played out the same way, but he knew that wasn't true, and here he was sitting with his back to his bedroom door, knees close to his chest and backpack discarded on the floor. Waiting outside for him were his arguing parents practically fuming with rage for the 10th time this week over a financial issue. The dark haired boy hadn't bothered turning on the light as he had just hoped to disappear into the darkness.
His parents haven't always fought like this, but over the past year things have escalated pretty quickly. Ever since Akaashis dad got fired from his job causing a great decline in his family's finances the fighting has become more frequent and everyday just adds more fuel to the raging fire building within his home. The dark haired boy had taken the liberty of getting a part time job to juggle with school and volleyball adding to the weight of it all to help support his family. He sat there waiting for the yelling to die down and thats when he heard a ping come from his phone.
Bokuto-San <3: Hey kaashiiii I was just making sure you got home okay
Bokuto-San <3: Still kinda smad that you didn't let me walk you home >:(
Akaashi smiled as a small blush formed. His boyfriend could always put a happy smile on his face. Despite everything going on, Bokuto was the one person that made Akaashi forget everything. With Bokuto, he could be happy. He chuckled at the use of the word 'smad' and then typed a quick reply.
Me: I'm fine bokuto-san thanks for being concerned. I just didn't want to trouble you with going out of your way to take me home.
Akaashi had lied. He felt bad of course but what could he do? He didn't want to trouble Bokuto with his family problems and surely didn't want anybody to find out about his current situation.
He put his phone down when he heard the front door slam shut. The yelling had come to a complete stop and Akaashi decided it was okay to come out after looking at the driveway and seeing that his mothers' car had pulled out. He sighed in relief and was about to check his phone when he heard a knock on the door.
His parents hadn't told him anybody was visiting but they didn't have the time to talk to him either. He rushed downstairs and opened the door to see a woman whom he did not recognize.
"You must be Akaashi." She slyly smiled at him. "Is your dad here? He said his wife was out."
Akaashi looked at her in utter disbelief. He had no words. Her straight red hair was cut in a bob and her tight black dress and red lipstick unsettled the teenage boy. If she was here for what he thought she was, then he had to get her to leave."He isn't in at the moment I'm sorry. Can you please leave?" He said bluntly about to close the door when she stopped it with her hand. Akaashis eyes widened as the door was flung back open and the lady held it there analyzing his face.
"You're cute." She blatantly stated. Was she serious? Akaashi hopelessly stood there waiting for somebody to come. Anybody.
"I said he wasn't here, miss." He said in a firmer tone. She giggled as she was about to walk back in. Her arms moved in the direction to cup Akaashis face but something stopped her. The setters eyes widened in shock as he saw what was holding her back. His owl haired ace had somehow arrived and swooped to his rescue just in time.
"I think he asked you to leave." his boyfriend stated, "please do so before I call the cops for trespassing." Bokuto had come to his rescue as if on cue. Bokuto might have seemed dumb, but sometimes there was a different side to him that only few could see. Akaashi was happy to be one of those few. The lady backed away and Akaashi could hear her heels click onto the driveway as Bokuto waltzed into Akaashis house waving to her as he closed the door behind him.
Bokuto walked over to him and Akaashi felt a warm hand on his cheek and another on the side of his arm.
"Are you okay? Did she hurt you?" He asked, a concerned look on his face. It was rare moments like these that made putting up with Bokuto so worth it. Akaashi looked him in the eyes and placed his hand on top of Bokutos that was on his cheek. He leaned into his touch as he said, "I'm fine. Thank you Bokuto-san, but why are you here?"
"Well isn't it obvious?" The ace stated, "You didn't reply to my text so I came to check on you."
Akaashi was thrown off by this. What text? He reached for his pocket and grabbed his phone. He glanced at his notifications.Bokuto-San <3: You could never trouble meeee so im gonna walk you home tomorrow
Bokuto-San <3: just remember that I love you akashi
Akaashi flushed and looked up at Bokuto.
"You always say 'I love you' back immediately so I came to check up on you." he said it as if it was a no brainer, "and I was right something was wrong." Bokuto exclaimed emphasizing the 'was' in his sentence. "You're always the one taking care of me so it feels good to be your hero this time." He looked proud of himself. Bokuto had thought of Akaashi as his hero. The thought of that making Akaashis face heat up even more. Instead of speaking he wrapped his arms around the taller boy in front of him burying his face into the others neck. Bokuto jumped a bit shocked, but then he wrapped his arms around Akaashi even tighter. They stood there hugging for a bit. Akaashi couldn't put into words how happy Bokuto made him and how much he appreciated his company. His boyfriend's presence could make him go from empty to what feels like the happiest person on earth. In Bokuto's embrace, Akaashi had almost completely forgotten that he had just found out his dad was cheating on his mother.
"I love you too Bokuto-san." Is what Akaashi murmured. Bokuto pulled back and placed a soft kiss onto his lips. It hardly lasted 2 seconds before Bokuto quickly pulled away, opening his eyes to meet Akaashis. The setter felt butterflies in his stomach and even though Bokuto was the one jumping and hitting balls as a spiker, Akaashi was the one who felt like he was flying when it was just the two of them in the vacancy of his home.Bokuto squeezed him again, slightly lifting the setter as he screamed "You're so pretty Akashi!" This was a comment that he frequently got but never got tired of. Being loved by Bokuto was different then anything he had ever experienced. It was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He had always been scared of bothering people with his problems that he kept everything to himself, but standing here with Bokuto's arms around him. He felt loved. He felt like he could finally let go and tell somebody about everything that's been going on. Akaashi finally decided it was okay when Bokuto told him to tell him everything. With every passing moment Akaashi was around Bokuto, he was truly on cloud nine.
